Weighted Balancer Question
Weighted Balancer Question
I am replacing the opti, and I bought a new crank balancer as my old one was rotted. I noticed that the stock balancer has a weight in it. Do I need to put this weight in new balancer as well?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: Weighted Balancer Question
I was thinking that it needed transferred. I'm just running a stock replacement. The good stuff goes in when I can convince the wife that her car needs a rebuild
Re: Weighted Balancer Question
Do you mean the little brass plug in one of the damper holes?
The unit is not a "balancer", it's a damper, and should be neutral balanced. There is mention of the factory fine tuning the dampers with the little weights to make minor tweeks to the engine balance, but I'm not convinced they are there for any purpose other than neutral balancing the damper assembly.
It becomes more logical, when you realize the damper hub is not even keyed to the crank, and can be installed in any position, and can slip.
