This is replacement or add on?

Does this replace the air box or does it connect to it somewhere as a add on to what is already there??

It appears to be replacement, however, I've been known to be wrong before.

Im really not sure to be honest, it looks pretty tiny to be sucking in air into the engine. Thats why I didnt know if it was a add on to whats there or a replacement.

It's the SLP cold-air kit for an LT1. It replaces the airbox entirely. The plate on the bottom goes where the stock airbox is, the right side of the pipe (as shown in the pic) goes down to the plate, the filters go on from the bottom, the left part (again, as shown in the pic) goes to the throttle body. You still retain the rubber elbow leading to the throttle body.

BTW, it's a perfectly good piece. It functions the same as any cold air; it just has 2 filters instead of one. Kinda pricey, but a nice piece nonetheless.

Okay cool I appreciate that I didnt know what the deal with it was and didnt wanna buy it and it not be what I wanted. I got another one since you seem familiar with the intake. On the rubber elbow portion underneath pointing towards the air dam (spelling) I have a oval shaped portion that has been taped up (previous owner) I looked inside the elbow and it looks like its opened through again pointing towards the air dam. What is that opening for?

The opening is for a silencer tube, used to quiet the intake down for noise regulations. You can plug the hole, or just buy a new elbow. Personally, I've always switched to a Trick Flow elbow when installing a cold air. Either way, you don't want a big hole in the elbow sucking in unmetered air, so if that is open, address it asap.

My car wouldn't run with that hole not plugged.

It shouldn't. That's a massive amount of air that isn't being seen by the MAF. I only mentioned it since the OP said he took off the tape that was covering it.

Well I didnt pull the tape off but I did check it out, and I covered it back afterwards. I was looking at one of those elbows they look a lot nicer then the current rubber one. Do you know if by chance they sell any polished ones? Ive seen the silverish dull looking ones but not any nice finished ones.

I used to have the ceramic coated Trick Flow. Current one is black. I imagine someone makes a polished one, but I don't know for sure.

That is the one you want. However, Summit lists it as out of stock, so you might want to check elsewhere. BTW, it is a nice piece and contains everything you want (clamps, hoses, elbow). Be aware that you will need to drill a hole in the bottom to fit the Opti vent hose.
