Question 58mm Mono-Blade 1350 CFM

I was thinking of getting one, has anyone bought one? What hp gains did you get and how is the throttle response?

unless you have some serious mods a monoblade is a total waste of cash. It is cool as **** though and I don't think it could hurt performance. But a 52mm twin is all you need to support up to 500HP at the flywheel. Best bang for your buck is a ported stocker off ebay.

I personally got it because it was the same price between 52 58 or mono. They were all out of 58mm, and without changing the subject too much, the drive by wire eliminates the IAC valve on throttle. So with a little tuning it is reliable.

Appears he has "serious mods"....

But he says he's making that 1,000+ HP with the stock TB???

I know what you mean if it ain't broke don't fix it. A buddy of mine has a shop out here with a engine dyno. He is playing around with different setup to maximise the performance. I was very sceptic of his methods but he is making it happen. Who would have thought replacing the spark plugs to the new E3 plugs would make a 32hp gain. I'm running a crap load of boost to the 383 LT1.

I posted a thread a few days ago and someone said that mono blade throttle body's may have an issue with high boost engine.

I'm intrigued to find someone with hard date to show how much of a hp gain you get out of it.

Since you are running forced induction (you really need to add a "signature" so people can help you without making a lot of ASSumptions), why don't you ask this question on the Forced Induction forum?

I would expect a significant gain moving up from the stock 48mm TB. I'd suspect that a couple psi of your 18psi boost is being lost through the tiny throttle bores. If its losing the boost in the induction system, the boost isn't reaching the cylinders, and all you are doing is working the blower way harder than it needs to work, and making less HP at the flywheel because of the HP wasted turning the blower.

Yes sir, however I want to make 1000rwhp. Which means I have to squeeze a little bit more out of this block. Which is why I posted these threads, I have to buy a 58mm unit anyways so I'm trying to find out if anyone has this mono blade to see how it works.

I guess those would qualify as "serious" mods

To tell you teh truth if I know how much money I was going to dump into this motor I would have done the LS swap. 427 LS3, I would be in the 1500-2000hp range in no time. But this is still a good and very strong motor as is and with Golen and his handy work, its a pure monster.

Which is why I was asking about this mono blade unit to see how much of a hp increase I could get on a "stock motor" and maybe/posibaly calculate how much I would see. But as alway on here we always end up taking a left hand turn somewhere and end up talking about some rendom thing...I guess I'm gona have to spend the $500 to see how it performs. I will let you guys know!

You may feel that "we always end up taking a left hand turn somewhere and end up talking about some rendom (random) thing...".... but the cause is the fact that your question is not answerable in the form you asked it. You asked for the HP gain others experienced.

Without telling people what engine you are putting the mono-blade on, there is no way anyone can provide you with an answer. Bolting a mono-blade on a stock engine will not gain you anything. Bolting a mono-blade on a 1,000HP forced induction engine that may currently be choked by a stock 48mm TB should provide a significant improvement. But until you provide the info on your specific application, you aren't going to get meaningful answers.

Yeah I understand that but I was hopping people who have bought one could tell me what their hp increases are and this way I can calculcate mine. Thanks either way

OK.... lets' say some told you "I put a mono-blade on a stock engine, and lost 10HP". Would that be useful?

Did you check the Forced Induction forum as I suggested? Those are the members who are most likely to have a setup in any way close to yours.

It's not going to be a proportional increase. If the stock TB is a restriction then the monoblade is going to provide a bigger increase than someone who isn't running 2+ atmospheres worth of boost.

The only problem I've heard people have with the monoblade is the spring is a little bit weak so sometimes the throttle blade won't close up completely which causes a high idle. It's usually more pronounced on FI cars. It's fairly easy to fix by adding a return spring.

Very interested in this subject. Currenty have a stock 48mm w/air foil TB, 379rwhp, 390rwtq. (I know it's small potatoes in comparison) Owen Priest of A.R.D. (Advanced Racing Dynamics) in Houston, who tunned my car after full porting, cat delete and cam swap, has suggested the Mono blade, and he doesn't sell them so it's not like he is biased. I like the idea of it mostly because it is just "Bad Ar$$", but ego asside I do wonder if it is over kill, hurting TB intake velocity; he says "nope" and that low intake velocity is more a problem for carburated cars where air velocity is necessary for proper atomization of the fuel. Where fuel injection cars are not as dependent on the intake manifold velocity so much as it is more a function of the intake port velocity on the heads where velocity is imperitive (depending on your aplication). The intake having as large an opening as resonably possible will help stabilize the flow inside the intake manifold helping the cylider fill more efficiently. This subject has fasinated me for several months now so the following dicussion will be welcomed.
