Cool 4L60E transmission issue (1100hp)

I knew this was going to bite me, I built a very strong motor (383 LT1 w/F1 ProCharger) 1034hp and 1044tq @18psi (12psi left to play with).

Before the engine swap I had a local shop here in Chicago (E&R) build be a "1000hp kit" 4L60E. (((NOT A FAN OF THEIRS)) I blew that transmission with only a few bolt-on parts. I did have a problem with engine overheating and I think that might have been the real reason why it was blowing.

I'm wondering what I should do. Any suggestions? Someone told me to go to a Turbo 400 but not sure how I feel about loosing my 4th gear?

Thanks,

If you want an OD, could go with a 4L80E.... There was a write up in the Advance Section many moons ago....

I thought about a 80E swap but that is just way too much money for the swap. $5K to $8K depending on HP rating.

I'd see what Performabuilt has to say about it.

If not that, how about a 400 with a GearVendors OD?

I'm open to anything, even if there is no other way but swaping to a 4L80E I will do. Turbo 400 is what everyone tells me but how is the drivability? I was under impression that the OD kits can't handle monster horsepower?

Buddy of mine ran an Art Carr "1,000HP" 700R4 behind his 1,125HP Vortech S/C'd 97 SS convertible. It lasted one launch on the street near his house. Art Carr rebuilt the 700R4. Driving the car up on the Interstate, leaving the shop, is lasted for one entrance ramp (reached 130MPH at the freeway), and was toasted. Art Carr then built him a TH400, and it lasted, along with a Gear Vendors O/D. Art Carr continued to use my buddy's 97 SS as the photo in his advertising.

Eventually, he decided he didn't have enough HP, dropped the GV to save weight (~50#) and had Art Carr beef up the TH400 some more. Then he was making 1,350HP with a 383 Dart Iron Eagle lock, Brodix heads and an even bigger Vortech S/C. Car was running low 8's/high 16X MPH in the PRO/Edlebrock Xtreme Street series. Only problem he had with the TH400 was not with the tranny, but with the adjustable torque convertor balooning.

He sold the GV to another buddy with a 1,000+HP LT1 (25th T/A clone) who ran it for a while, with no problems, then I picked it up for 1/2 price, and put it behind my 800HP/800lb-ft nitrous motor. I do not have a lot of passes on it, but its held up fine. Gear Vendors advertises it as a heavy duty unit, and I've never heard of anyone having problems with it.

This was the first pass with the 1,350HP setup. Video is not all that great, because I was focusing on the rear suspension at the time.

"Injuneer" you da man!!! This is what I was looking for...I never thought building such high hp would be a big problem with transmission.

Don't worry about the other post this one answered everything! One more thing what if I drop the rear gears to 3.73, would you recomend it or just keep the 4.10 and do this TH400 with GV?

I don't know how good a PG will work in a heavy car. Depends in part on how much weight cutting you can do.

I've done a lot to cut weight, as much as I can on a street car. I asked my self (((Will this item be used or is it being used by something else?))) If not it was removed. Also I replaced all the body pannels with carbon fiber (fender, bumper, hood, door and rear wing) 100-150lbs less. Engine bay is 150lbs less than a stock set up, rear axle is 40lbs less, hood, etc. I should be around 400-500lbs under stock. But its a street car so I don't want it too light and start taring into the accessories and interior.
