TPS sensor?

I just got my car back together and it has a bad idle. I unplug the TPS than plug it back in and the Idle will clear up a lot but not all the way. Is this a sign of a bad TPS. Thanks

With that sensor unplugged your car is going into limp mode which bypasses a few sensors. The best thing to do is scan your car with LT1 edit and see if your stepping is too high on your TPS and go from there.

When I first start the car Idle is at about 800rpm and bouncing then I unhook the TPS and the Idle is the same but once I plug the TPS back in the idle jumps to about 1200 and bounces around a little.

When was the last time you cleaned your IAC & MAF?

Unplugging stuff is not the way to test. A scanner will easily tell you if the TPS is ok. Don't have a scanner? Buy one and learn how to use it. You can't troubleshoot a modern car without one.

Are you talking about a regular obd2 scanner. I scanned it and only get a p1642 which is for the fans; I think, but the fans do come on.

Maf was cleaned not too long ago but I just removed the IAC and it is black. What should I use to clean it?

Searched and found that the maf cleaner will work.

Ok I cleaned the maf and the IAC. Then I started it and the Idle was high like 1500rpms. And a new code came up p0122.

P0122 Code - Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Low Input

Have you properly adjusted the TPS?

Thanks green96z I did do that to the TPS when I put the 58mm in but I did not check the volts. Nor did I make sure the blades were set correctly. Ill try that next but I think I set it correctly by luck because when I had it set wrong the trans would shift hard as hell. It did not have this problem a year ago it ran fine but then I started to have ignition problems so I changed the plugs, opti, wires and had the coil and ICM tested. Got it all together and now I have a high/low Idle with surging. I have not driven it but when I rev it in park it sounds good; a lot stronger than ever.

Tested and reset the TPS and TB blades. But did not change my surging problem. I think I got the P0122 because I unpluged the sensor. The sensor is giving me the correct readings; 0% throttle is .68v and as I open the blades it increaces to 4.92v stedaly. So I think that part is good. The Idle is now normal but it continues to surge. I did buy a cheap cap from ebay here it is.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160284222696

I thought the cap/rotor was 2 caps and the rotor. I only got the main cap and the rotor not the cap that the opti wiring plugs into. Any ways I think I am going to have GM check it out and tell me whats wrong.

There is no second cap. The main body of the Opti is the back 1/2 and contains the optical sensor and the harness connector. The cap is the front 1/2 with the coil and plug wire towers. You only get both parts if you buy a complete Opti. A generic cap or complete Opti from eBay is a major risk.

Appears you have a code reader, not a true scanner. Best bet is computer software and a cable, allowing you to read the sensors and calculated PCM parameters directly. AutoTap is one example of OBD-II scan software.

Thanks I was sure my cheap code reader was not what shoebox mentioned. Looks like its $199 for the kit;I will be ordering on of them soon.
