Question cam questions

Well I bought a COMP CAMS LT1/LT4 280 XFI CAM and these are the specs for it.
----------------------------------------DURATION-----------Valve----Lobe
------------------------------------------ADV-----@.50----lift 1.6:1---sep
rpm range---Part#-------Grind#---------in---ex----in--ex---in---ex----angle
-2000-6000--07-467-8--280XFIHR13----280--288--230-236-.576-.570---113°

What I am woundering is if i can use my stock rockers/pushrods/lifters/valve springs with this cam or not mainly because it says 1.6 for the valve lift on the cam and mine is stock 1.5, or does that even matter?

If someone could help me out i would really appreciate it because i really dont want to put it in there and mess something up.

You definitely cannot use stock valve springs. It is specced for 1.6:1 rockers but you can use 1.5:1. You will lose some performance potential with 15 v. 1.6 rockers. The rest of the parts will probably work. This is a great time to upgrade to a set of roller rockers though.

I would consider the Hot cam the only cam to even consider stock rockers/PR's on and even then you need springs. The Hot Cam has slow ramps that (as shown by the fact it will work with $35 springs) will be OK on these parts but the spring change is even needed here.

Any other after market cam has more aggressive ramps and need much more spring pressure to control and better parts (rockers/pushrods) to handle this abuse.

Springs, rockers and pushrods are a MUST with any other cam.

Good thing you posted up, stock parts on that cam would have detroyed some stuff and if you were lucky enough to NOT drop a valve, you would have spit pushrods through the hood and they would have landed 2 blocks over.

never seen it in person myself but I can only imagine.

It just cost $$$ to do things right and not break parts.

I know people want more than the Hot Cam but it is about the only thing even close to compatable with stock (or cheep) parts.

Either way, there are so many things involved in making the car fast or making good power that if you are on a tight budget, get 1 3/4 LT headers good exhaust, CAI, GOOD stall converter, etc, etc and leave the stock cam in there as oposed to getting good heads/cam but trying to run stock manifolds, shorty headers, stock converter, etc. the car will run better and you will be happier making the most of the REST of the combination.

I would wait on doing a cam (or heads and cam) until you can affiord to get good springs, pushrods, rockers, injectors, tuning, etc, etc.

rpm ranges are WAY WAY off from Comp, one more reason this is all a bad idea. Have to rev much higher.
