cam break in, how long?
cam break in, how long?
Im in the process of putting a new comp cc305 cam in my car. the bottom end is still untouched. my question is how long would you guys reccomend i take it easy on the motor till the cam is "broken in" enough to run WOT?
also, i will be having a mail-ordered tune made for my car, along with larger injectors. it wouldnt do any harm in starting the car with the stock tune still on would it?, it would only be for a short time to make sure everything is working correctly. thanks for any help,

When I build a new motor we start it up and warm it to full operating temp while watching closely for any leaks, funny sounds, etc. Usually run it runs for 5-10 minutes on the chassis dyno under low load, but no load is ok also. Then shut down, let it cool, recheck things like valve adjustment, head bolt torque, etc. as appropriate for the type of build. After that, beat it like a red headed step child.

Because it's just a cam swap and as already stated there is no break in procedure. I've done cam swaps where I start it, let the oil circulate through the engine at a low rpm, shut the engine off and change the oil.. or change the oil, start it, let it run for a few minutes and then change the oil again to make sure all gunk from the engine being open has been washed out. Naturally you should make doubly sure to do the cleanest install you can since the front of the oil pan is exposed and can catch all kinds of nasty **** as well as keeping the oil valley clean.
