Anyone runnin a XE 227/233 ?
Anyone runnin a XE 227/233 ?
So I think I finally found which cam I am going to be getting. Didnt realize this was an off the shelfer till earlier today. But it seems like its exactly what I want.
A 230/236 is too big & would need revved too high.
And a 224/230 leaves a little on the table still in my opinion.
My deal fell through on a LE1, so I think this may make an awesome replacement.
Combination Motorsports sells them.
Its an XE Grind, 227/233 @ 112 LSA .560/.569
I figure, on stock heads, this should be be alright shifting at 6300ish ?

I am currently running this cam and have been pleased with it thus far. You will get some mixed reviews on it, as for some reason quite a few people don't like it. I don't have any track times yet because just shortly after getting the car back together, my trans started giving up the ghost. If you have any other questions, let me know.

FWIW- I was able to pass Ohio e-check with this cam.

Yeah, alot of people don't like the xe lobes b/c they tend to be a little hard on the valvetrain. The Magnum lobes like the cc306 aren't as aggressive so alot of people go in that direction. I have the Combination Motorsports 233/239 with 1.6 rr's. I have really enjoyed this cam and would like to know how much is still on the table from a dyno tune. It sounds awesome at idle and pulls strong to 6800 although I shift at roughly 6650. I think you'll enjoy the 227/233, it was my first choice but I got a slam'n deal on the 233/239 and I'm glad that I bought the 233/239, With my 4.10's I don't mind the extra r's anyway
. As a matter of fact I'd like to know what she'd feel like with 4.30's or 4.56's.

Alright, thanks guys.
Im not too worried about the valve train. I have 918's, 10* locks & retainers, Pro-Mags, and Comp Hi-Tech pushrods, as long as my PR. length doesnt change much?
The more I read about it, the more I think I'd be OK shifting at 6300ish on stock heads.

Just got off the phone with someone from Combination, he seemed like he was busy, but told me "around 6500" so I'm hoping to hear from some of the guys on here with one, what they shift it at ?
I'm really suprised more people didnt reply to this thread. It seems like the perfect cam for anyone wanting bigger than a 305, 503, Hot Cam, and smaller then a CC306, GM847, etc.
Hopefully I can get some more feedback on this before I buy one?
I heard they have an older lobe design than the other off the shelf XE cams ???
Anyone with any experience with this cam, on stock, or ported heads.

Like was said earlier in the thread, most people stay away from these cams for some reason and that is why I chose it. I like to stay away from the norm and try new things....you never know what you may find.
