Dead opti... found oil... This is why it died right? *pics*
You can see some on the metal cover and on the baseplate.
That opti doesn't look terribly bad.
A lot of oil, while it has been known to mess up opti operation, shouldn't cause permanent damage. If everything else was in good condition I'd clean off the oil and put it back in.
You have enough rust in there that I would go ahead and replace this one, however. Not nearly as rusty as my original was or a lot of other ones I've seen pictures of, though.
Hard to tell from these pics, but the rotor looks to be pretty badly eroded. Could just be the light.

yeah i think the rotor is in pretty rough shape for being just over a year old and is not driven in the winter. When i installed the wp seal when i installed this opti, i installed it in the timing cover while it was off, then popped the timing cover on and tore it i'm sure. I drove it for about 10000 miles like this... really surprised i got this much out of it. Live and learn i guess. Wish my living and learning didn't cost me $300 bucks. o well
