Just measured my dowel pin...

All this talk of dowel pin length lately has had me concerned...That was the only thing that I forgot to check when I built my motor.

So, since my motor is still on a stand I decided it's better to be safe than sorry. I measured it at .598", I'm pretty sure GM says it should protrude from the nose of the cam .620"....

So is this acceptable? Is .022" too short gonna cause problems?

This is an LE3.2 cam ground by comp cams btw...

Easiest thing is to check how deep it goes in the opti. Put some puddy or paint or something in the hole, put the opti on the car, then see how far the pin goes up in it.

If it bottoms out or is very near the bottom then the pin is too long. As long as its inside the hole its not going to be too short. There is no exact length it has to be, just as long as it makes enough contact to turn the opti and doesn't bottom out on it.

Damn...I already took the cam out of the motor because I didn't have anything to acurately measure it with at home...

I have the cam here with me at work. I was hoping to be able to make sure it was the correct length and get it corrected today if it wasn't right. That way I could just go home and install it, degree it again, and not worry anymore about it

It was likely fine. Now that you have it out, set it to what makes you comfortable.

Yeah that sounds like the best idea, thanks

I'll probably check it yet again with some grease in the opti like jsetzer suggested once its back together. Thanks all
