Cam Dowel Pin
Cam Dowel Pin
I have a question maybe you guys can help me with. I have a chance to purchase a cam for my 95 Z28. The owner says that the dowel pin needs to be redrilled in the cam. Has anyone ever had to have this done before? During our conversation he said that the opti runs mostly off the three bolts anyway-is this true?Does anyone no where I can get the spec's for it, it's a CC306. All help is appreciated,Mike
why would you have to redrill the cam dowel pin?the only thing i can figure is it is for a 94 NON vented opti and he wants you to replace the dowel. personaly i would by the one for my car with the right pin. but thats just my .02
The differences in pins is the length. The vented optispark cams ('95+) use a longer dowl pin to drive the opti. Installing a longer pin is not a problem, although make sure that it is at the proper depth and not pushing on the optispark when installed.
I've also heard of some folks having to drill the front of the cam to get the opti's center locating dowel to seat right. I thought they would all accept the newer optis, but if not, a machine shop could do this no problem.

This was posted not too long ago by SkarodoM about dowel pin length:
Remember that you need the large hole in the center, front of the cam as well for the 95+ opti.
93/94 .300"
95+ vented .620"
+- .010"
95+ vented .620"
+- .010"

I had mine drilled out today, the machinist said he would just give it enough room to slide in, which I am sure it will be fine, it just sits in there, doesnt turn the cam...
