oil ruins opti? or maybe crappy wires causing misfires?
Sorry if this has been discussed already, I couldn't find anything through searching and I don't have much time to keep at it.
I have an oil leak at the front of my oil pan (at the bottom of the timing cover), which slings oil all over the place.. My car is misfiring very badly right now, so I took the optispark off and sure enough, oil had gotten up into it.. The opti is only about a year or year and a half old (OEM GM), and the oil seems to have stayed mostly in the bottom of it, but I was wondering if someone could let me know how big of an issue this would cause.
The only other thing I can think of that is causing my misfires is the Elite Spark Plugs 9mm wires that I put on a year or year and a half ago (back when everyone was talking good about them).. I've watched in the dark and didn't see any arcing anywhere, but maybe I missed something? The car has ran great over the last year or so, but I have noticed that the engine would misfire a little bit when it was cold, but would quickly clear up as soon as I started to drive it.. This eventually got worse and now i'm at the point where it misfires no matter what

If oil gets on the internals of the opti, that could cause some problems. As for the wires, you could always do an ohm test on them with a digital voltmeter and see if they fall close in readings to each other. If no unusual readings come up and they don't arc, they should be okay.
