Angry Cam bearing rant!!!

Picked up my block from the machine shop today and my cam bearings appear to have some pretty nasty gouges in them!

Looks like maybe they drug the installation tool across them, or something. Damn near every one of them is scuffed.

How much of a mark is acceptable? I'm sure mine are bad, I'm just curious as to how much it takes to make it bad!

I'll get a picture of them up later.

Did you not mention anything to the people at the shop about it?

Couple pics...of course the up close ones look bad.

In the last pic, the very faint vertical marks are from my fingernail when I was trying to feel the scratches.

Maybe they let some FNG do it and the regular guys know nothing about it, so give them the benefit of the doubt and if they don't get those swapped out right away for you, then get in their face about it.

And I don' think ANY gouges in new bearings are acceptable. If you wanted them gouged up, then you would have done them yourself, or waited until you stab the cam and scrape the lobes across them, LOL. You pay a pro a pro price, you want a pro job.

Those are pretty messed up - take it back.

The surface finish on those bearings looks like crap - what brand are they?

Those look like crap. Can you feel any irregularity/surface defects?

Oh, definitely! Fingernail catches in the gouges pretty easily!
