DRL question/problem....

I did the DRL upgrade on my car countless months ago. Anyway, I have had this problem from the beginning and it is just now starting to bother me. With the head lights off, everything works fine. When I turn the headlights on the right will blink correctly, but the left one stays solid, but I can see the faintest little flicker when its blinking. The backs still work correctly. I obviously have something wired wrong at the relay on the driver's side. But I was wondering if one of you electric gurus, could diagnose the problem without me digging into it first.

Thanks all

I have to assume a few things. When you say "headlights" above, you mean front left BLINKER. Another assumption is that you used the factory DRL module.

Since the other side works, and this side does light, I also assume the power is hooked up to the DRL module on pin A of connector C2. That's the 8 pin, black connector going to the DRL and the lower left pin when viewing the connector at the mating end with safety latch UP. Power should also be hooked to pins C and F of C1 (blue connector). When viewed from the pin end not the wire end, with the latch up, C and F are second from the right side on the top and the bottom.
Sorry I even put myself to sleep.

Another point of assumption is that pin A of C1(that's the blue conector) going to the DRL is grounded. Again, pin A is the lower left pin when viewing the connector at the mating end with safety latch UP. It's worth double checking.

Be sure the left turn signal is going into the blue connector (C1) on pin E which is upper right when viewed the same way.

Last, check pin B of C1(blue connector) for the signal going to the bulb in question. It's right next to A, second from the left on the bottom row. It should be connected to the blinker on the light blue wire.

I suspect that either the internal solid state relay in the DRL is not functioning properly, or this wire going to the bulb is shorted to a +12V wire that is active when the lights are turned on.

I hope you didn't

PS I was talking about viewing the connectors on the wires not the ones on the DRL. If your connectors are not color coded, let me know so I can help you figure out which pins are which.

Dave

I hate to say this. I almost just want to say thank you and just forget about it.

But, I went the cheap route and just used a relay at both signals to make the lights always on. I believe I got the diagram from Brent's site. The info that you provided above was above and beyond. Thanks... I believe the way that it works is by using the turn signal "signal" to trip the relay and kill power to the parking lamp for a second. Anyway, I just need to take it apart and rewire it I guess.

Man do I feel guilty

Don't feel guilty just I cause I ramble on for ever. Some day I'll learn how to give short direct answers like Rob does.

If you want, I can look over the diagram and maybe help find where the problem is.

Besides, I love electrical problems.

When you post a reply on a thread. Look above where you type. Click the http:// thing and it will say something like "enter text to be displayed....." then after you do that click ok, then it says something like" enter url" then you do that. BAM! you've got a link. Try it with bold like this by pushing the "B" button and typing what you want to be changed. Good luck. Took me awhile to figure out how people were doing that.

Hey biatch, he was talking to me

It's all cool

You're still gonna help a brotha out right...

Edit: You can also put the same thing in your signature too. It requires a little extra effort, but is doable. Its easiest by opening up a separate window as if you were starting a new post and using the above method then cutting and pasting into your sig area on the user CP.
