Severe wandering steering problem (not loose or sloppy)
Severe wandering steering problem (not loose or sloppy)
Here is the story .. I had a BMR K member and A arms on the car .. took them out and sold them to a friend and got his stock K member and A arms in return... i undid my BMR stuff, left the steering rack hanging for a little bit, then did the swap with the stock stuff. bolted and torqued everything down but forgot to torque the steering rack bolts so it was lose... drove around the parking lot a little bit and realized that i forgot the steering rack bolts .. so i torqued those and now i got this horrible wandering problem :
The steering wheel never comes back to the centre, if u turn it to the left a bit it wants to go all the way left (same with right), if i hit a little bump on the street it rips out of my hands and turns on its own .. it constantly wants to go left or right on the street .. and when i turn it feels like one of the wheels is dragging. and the car feels really unstable in general. i put good stock shocks and springs back in, have not done alignment yet but i doubt that a bad alignment would cause such severe issues...
any ideas ? thanx in advance

Sounds to me like an alignment problem. A bad alignmet can cause the types of problems you describe. Its reasonable to beleive that swapping out K- Members and A-Arms could effect your front wheel alignment.
My car does the same thing. I also let my steering rack hang while doing my header install. It has the same problems as you are having. I have taken it in for an alignment (helped a little), but have been told that it is because of my wide tires, 275/40/17's. If you find anything, please let me know. Thank,
Kyle

trust me u wouldnt live with this for a day if u had the same problem
I remember a guy posting here who had the same wandering issue. He had discovered, that the lower A arm "bolt hole bracket" on his K member was shot, it was partially missing the factory welds... I remember he posted some pictures and suggested everyone to check their k-members out.
One question: Why did you ge rid of your BMR tubular k-member??
