Anyone have an oil leak through the crank position sensor bolt?
Anyone have an oil leak through the crank position sensor bolt?
During my cam install I ripped my front pan gasket.. unfortunately it was literally stuck in the timing cover so we just gave it a clean cut on both ends. We used a good amount of RTV and it does not appear to be leaking from there.
Before the cam install I always noticed a bit of oil around the bolt that holds the crank position sensor onto the timing cover. Post install of the cam, I now have a few drops of oil on the floor a week.. nothing too bad, but annoying.. I also notice that the CPS retainer bolt has more oil on it now than before.. if it were leaking from the timing cover I doubt it would cover the this bolt in oil, and that general area looks pretty clean, although it has oil on it b/c it looks like the oil sprays back..
Now that you've read all this crap
... Has anyone noticed the same? I'm gonna try using some teflon paste sealant towards the top of the bolt (only where it contacts the threads) to see if it will stop the leak.

Yes, i have a leak from that piece of..... I bought gasket paper, fabbed a gasket, and recently installed it, but the oil still comes thru. There is an o-ring around the sensor itself, and i think everything is blowing by that, then riding down with gravity. I called monday, and my local Chevy dealer wants 70 bucks for a new sensor. O-ring is not separate. Let me know what you end up doing, i am all ears, and still trying to stop it.

Hrm, I think next oil change I'll pull the cps out again and see about picking up a set of Orings at NAPA that might match up properly..
Now that I think about it, the threads don't even lead to an oil passage... it's just a solid part.
So it must be that Oring.. hmm thanks for the lead.. I'll keep ya up to date
I recently had my little leak checked out and the shop replaced the O ring. SOB still leaks from somewhere. Just one spot on the garage floor when I park it.
Shop deleted oil cooler when new shortblock installed. I wonder if there is something about where the oil cooler was connected that might be leaking?
Guess I'lll just have to crawl under there and take a look.

Hey Javier and guys,
I had replace mine 'bout a year ago cause it was leaking. Still leaks ($74).
It looks like the oil may be coming from higher up on the block and just dripping off the cps. I look at that damn thing every time I'm under the car.
Let us know it you if the o rings work out, But I wouldn't bother buying a new one.

I'll definintely look into a new Oring before I buy a new sensor tho
I shoulda just taken the damn thing out and switched to a 95 cover :/
Re: Anyone have an oil leak through the crank position sensor bolt?
the problem I see is that there is no oil seapage coming from above it at all.. the crank seal, opti seal, and water pump seal are all brand new, and when I look at them from under the car, there is no seapage anywhere, everything is still clean from reassembly a few months ago.

Re: Anyone have an oil leak through the crank position sensor bolt?
did your sensor ever quit leaking. My sensor wasn't leaking until I changed out the oil pan and gasket and timing cover, with the timing cover came a new o-ring for the sensor, so I put it on, now it leaks. Bought a new sensor, it leaks. There is no oil from anywhere on the timing cover or any place else, it is just on the bracket for the crank sensor and just below it. Weird part is no matter how long I drive it, when I get back the oil on the sensor brace is cold while everything else is hot? I don't get it? any help?
The o-ring might be to thick tho. Might have to replace with a thinner one
