Question Post your emissions report please?

Hi all,

I'm getting ready for an engine swap and I'd like to see how much the typical mild or stock LT1 is emitting. The engine I have is from a 96 trans am. Unfortunately, I didn't save any of my old reports from my 94 Z so I can't compare them to the 13b rotary...

I'm planning to set the engine up fairly stock on the bottom end though I would *love to do a cam and still pass. The heads are going in all stock (for now).

I'm considering a hotcam or something similar and I'm trying to determine how much room I have to play with and still pass. I will be on the rollers regardless of the functioning ODB2. I don't know if the rollers are going to hurt me or help me yet :P

I don't believe the late 80's rotary has squeeky clean reputation...but I'm trying to cover all the bases as this will be my daily driver.

Thanks in advance for any info (or scans of actual reports from metro atlanta) I'm not holding my breath on something that specific...but if someone out there has a test they are willing to type in or scan it would help out tremendiously. My car needs a real engine *grin*

Don't know if you did a search, but I made a post about this a few weeks ago.

In Ohio, we have a roller test, and they test emissions at part-throttle. I have a stock engine, stock exhaust & cat. 111K miles.

I got:

HC: 17.5ppm (114ppm limit)
CO: 0.05% (0.63% limit)

I have done some searching...but I might have missed it. I've been looking around some more since I posed this and it seems I may have had a misconception about how they determine how much you can pollute :P I was thinking that each vehicle had specific numbers that they go by...but the more I poke around on the epa website...it looks like they use 'rigid' numbers for a certain class of vehicles (depending on milage?) ...oops. If that's true...then I may have an easier time figuring out how far I can go.

would I be correct assuming an RX7 would be classified as a 'light duty' vehicle? Z28's would also be light duty? It's the closest classification as far as I can tell.

Am I on the right track now? :P

Here they have roller emissions, and they take your car on a simulated drive around town on those rollers while its hooked up to the machine. With the mods below, and two big cats after each collector I pulled:

Hydrocarbons were 0.3157 grams/mile out of 0.8000 g/m.
Carbon Monoxide was 0.2291 g/m, out of 15.0000 g/m
I actually passed Oxides of Nitrogen with 0.0623 g/m, out of 2.0000 g/m.

That was with the CC306!? I was planning to use the stock Y pipe with mine and either the stock, or the high flow converter that's currently attached to the 'buzzbox' under the hood right now...so I wonder if I should plan on going true dual with two high flows...maybe that will make all the difference and I can still play a little inside the engine.

Standards and test methods vary from state to state... e.g. I/M240 or ASM5015 rolling dyno tests. Allowable levels are generally determined by the year of the car's manufacture. Comparing your results to someone from another state using different methods and different standards is not going to tell you very much.

yeah I sort of figured that, however looking at the allowables of jsk333s setup, and what he actually output...leads me to believe that with the right exhaust...I could probably do a little something to it and still pass...not done searching yet, I need to look at ASM5015 now :P

Still waitng for maybe someone in atlanta to post :)
