"search" problems

"search" seems to be funky. I'll enter the info, hit the search button, and it immediately tells me "no matches". Go "back" to the same search screen, and using the same info that is already entered, hit the button again, and it turns up a complete set of matches.

I've seen several posts where people will say "I tried the SEARCH but it isn't working". Might be a problem.

I dont think the answer is still here, but basically the search index needs to be rebuilt, but will require taking the site down a few hours to do so, so they were waiting to see if it got any worse, which it appears it has. Hopefully they'll take care of it sometime in the near future.

Re: "search" problems

Give me step by step details on how your get a page cannot be displayed error message. Be very detailed so I can try and recreate it.

I've personally never experienced a slowness problem at night.

Re: "search" problems

I've had the page not found problem a lot lately.

It seems I can search several times, but if I go off to another site, then return later and try to search again, either using the quick, or advanced searches, it goes to the generic page not found page. If I reload it, then it goes to the advanced search, but does the same thing if I try to search again.

Give me step by step details on how your getting a page cannot be displayed error message. Be very detailed so I can try and recreate it.

I want SPECIFIC search keywords, what search are you using (main page, forum, advanced?????)

Re: "search" problems

Yesterday when I posted this I used first the quick search on the main forum page for:

intake rtv cure time

then just

intake

Both came up with page cannot be displayed. Tried it in the advanced search, same results. Time of day was yesterday around 2:30 EST.

I just tried again:

intake rtv cure time

Page cannot be displayed, this was via quick search on the main page. Tried advanced search again, page cannot be displayed. This is when searching "all open forums"...

Searching in just LT1 tech, same results, page cannot be displayed.

Searching now for just "intake" in all open forums, takes forever to load results. Same search in just LT1 tech, gives results quickly. Searching from advanced search off main page.

As far as site slowness goes, I hate to sound like a dumb user, but it's at random times at night around midnight or so... I'll post next time it's acting up I guess. It's the only site that's slow to load for me at that point

Re: "search" problems

Try again searching for intake time using the basic search pulldown in the top nav bar.

Then, try searching for ported heads using the same manner. What happens with both searches? Same result or a different one?

Okay...thanks...

ported heads

Basic search, worked fine, little slow, but worked.
Thanks again. I am not sure what this means, but it might help narrow this down.

Re: "search" problems

Possibly more common searched terms are already indexed in the database and do not pose an issue or as much stress to be searched?

Re: "search" problems

Try this -

Use your same search terms, but this time use the search under the particular section of the Message board that your looking for help in (LT1 or LS1, etc..).

Now, make sure you are using the Search this Forum search - NOT the very top Search in the Nav panel.

Re: "search" problems

Same results just now Chris using what you suggested, page cannot be displayed.

Search term: "intake rtv cure time" under the "Search this forum" part of LT1 tech.

Did you also try "ported heads" in that manner?
