We think we know how to fix this and are looking into it.
It is more machine dependant than server, from what we can tell. The chat room uses the user's RAM to hold the previous conversation text in memory, and after a while if starts to fill up. This is the theory that we are looking into.
What are the RAM specs on the computers that you used?

I've got 2 gigs of RAM in my PC at home and only noticed a bit of lag when we first opened it up and had almost 50 people in there.
