Can we get a sticky?

Stating no Carfax requests? Lately it's really getting out of hand with a few a day it seems. I know the people asking mean well, but really, when you're buying a car, you can spend the extra $20 to make sure it checks out. not to mention the people who actually pay for carfax end up getting screwed and having their account canceled for helping others run these reports.

i agree with what he said. most dealers will do them for you as well if you ask.

btw, the sticky would probably go best in the lounge since that's usually where people ask for them.

I never noticed it enough to be a problem, considering that in the Lounge there is always something that needs to be ignored. If I were to sticky that, I would also have a long list of things to sticky that annoy people.

If it pops up again, post what you just posted in this thread, warn them that Carfax will cut them off.

that does not usually seem to work seeing as most of the people that ask for them are either new to the site or are not lounge regulars so they do not know any better... a sticky may be a good idea so the carfax police can finally take a rest

What about a filter?

I remember working on a free invisionfree.com message board where you could put word filters in. Change b.... to *****. And other more synonymous swears.

Not sure how it would work if someone just tries to innocently explain their carfax...

I don't think censoring the word carfax would really be the way to go. There's plenty of ways to beat the language filter, so it would only be so effective. And, as you said, if somebody was just discussing a carfax report that they had gotten, it would censor the word even though it's not in the context of a request. The best thing to do is just ignore carfax requests or inform the poster that we don't do that kind of thing here.

What about just adding a section in the Forum rules stating that carfax requests are not permitted?

What's wrong with having a carfax thread now and then? Does it take too much time away from reading your threads on relationship problems and funny pictures of cats???? This is a great help to other people. It creates a community of people helping each other out and that's what I though car forums were about. I guess they are really about how bad I feel because my significant other cheated on me???????????????????????

do a search for carfax requests in the lounge and you'll find out why.
