Question Why use white towels?

I saw a few posts here that said to only use white towels. The posters never said why to only use white. I think they were thinking that white is better since dye from colored towels (red, green, blue, etc.) might slowly and subtly wear off the towels and get on the car's paint.

If this is the reason, then there's a flaw with this thinking because white towels are definitely colored--they just have white-colored dye. A white towel is definitely treated with as much dye as a red one or one of any other color---it's just the color white.

Here's my theory... White cotton is just safer IMHO. The color of natural cotton is white so IF the white towels contain any dye, it's probably very minute amounts. I don't know much about towel manufacturing, but it's possible that white towels are just bleached white, then there would be NO dyes. Colored towels obviously contain dye, MUCH more than any white towel. So, why take a chance and use a colored towel full of dyes? It's a nonissure to me....

Besides the dyed, not dyed, bleached, not bleached debate, you should use white towels as that is about the only way to know when they become too dirty to use on the paint any longer and need to be washed.
