Question What is a "clay bar"?

I keep reasing about clay bars here but I'm not sure what it does, how one would use it, or exactly when one needs it.

It sounds positively destructive to paint though I'm sure it's not.

Someone please enlighten me.

There's no way clay can destroy your finish, unless you use it totally wrong...it's perfectly safe even for new cars.

I used it on my 99 SS and my 2002 SS right off the truck. It makes a BIG difference in the smoothness of the surface. It is removing contaminants from the surface, it isn't an abrasive.

Clay bars started over in Japan as they have alot of fallout from factories. They really clean the surface of unwanted and damaging contaminants. Very easy to use and worth the time
