Question Removing wiper marks from windshield

The previous owner of my Z apparently was too lazy to change the wipers. Is there any sort of polish or anything that I can use to get the marks out or at least lessen them?

I don't wanna goto a glass shop etc.

Are they scratches? Or are you talking about the black marks that seem to accumulate at the edges where the wiper reaches its farthest extension? If its the black marks, I just used some goo gone and then windex after. If they are scratches, I believe there is a way to lessen them if they are real shallow. I will let someone else chime in on that issue Good luck

if they are rub marks (not deep scratches), i have used "believe it or not" toothpaste and a buffer, not the "gel" toothpaste but the "paste" toothpaste, if you do decide to try this don't hold the buffer in one place too long, it could put a high amount of heat into the glass causing it to crack.
kinda wierd but it worked for me.

I have that same exact problem on my 1997 camaro. The previous owner was a 19 year old girl, so...i changed the wipers for the first time in the cars life 5 years later. I will try the toothpaste thing. Any other ideas?

I bought one with scratches and I told the dealer to fix the glass before I bought it. Their glass guys said it couldn't be buffed out because it would cause distortions in the glass. They had to replace the windshield.

The Eastwood company sells a specific polishing compound and a special buffing wheel made just for use on glass. My father used it on his 53 Merc' and it worked well on the rear window of my comet convertible. I think this is the stuff you are looking for.

The best thing I know to use is a product called BONAMI. I use to work at a Chevrolet dealership and that is what we used. You can get it at just about any store. It is by the bathroom cleaner. If the scratches are deep you might need to use a buffer with this stuff. But I swear by this stuff. It is so good it can take etch off without scratching the glass, if that tells you anything....Good luck

FWIW - you may want to try www.bonami.com and look at their "Retail Locations." That should help you find somewhere near you, that would sell it.

Cool

We're getting a little too many topics here on detailing type questions. Although that does have to do with the car's appearance this forum is for appearance modifications like hoods, wheels, ground effects, custom paint, etc.

Just a friendly reminder there is also a Show and Shine section here where detailing/cleaning/waxing type questions should be asked. Thanks!!!

I'll move this to the Show and Shine forum...
