Quick Review - Turtle Wax Ice
Quick Review - Turtle Wax Ice
Many of you might have heard that Turtle Wax has a new product Ice Clear Liquid Polish and Spray Detailer as it has been getting some attention lately. Turtle Wax sent us a sample of their kit for us to check out and give a quick review on.
Here we go...
The Basics
Turtle Wax Ice - "Stop Waxing, Start Polishing"
- Clear Liquid Polish
- Clear Spray Detailer
Site: http://www.turtlewax.com/ice/ - http://www.icepolish.com/
MSRP for $29.99 for the set (retail price may vary), should be found in most major auto parts stores.
Initial Impression
The set includes a bottle of polish and a separate bottle of spray detailer. The polish we received also includes a nice microfiber towel as well as a sponge applicator that works okay, but we opted to use a cotton applicator of our own instead. Either one will work, it is personal preference. The bottles they come in look cool and fit the hand comfortably, and the spray detailer sprays evenly and cleanly. Both liquids look just like water and even flows like it but have a nice smell that is hard to place. Most might think it has a "coconutty" smell to it. According to Turtle Wax, you can use this on just about any surface. It is okay to use on all painted surfaces, chrome, plastic & rubber trim and even wheels. A little goes a long way, and when you get it on your hands, it doesn't want to leave. Very slick stuff indeed.
Application
This stuff goes on easy. Really easy. It cannot be simpler and you can put it on in direct sunlight if necessary. The instructions say to let it haze for a couple of minutes, but it did not exactly "haze" like a regular wax or polish, it just sort of "solidifies" as it dries, which makes it a bit hard to see what parts you have already done, but it is not very much of a hassle. There is a major benefit to this: Removing it is a breeze because since it doesn't haze normally, there is no powdery residue that gets everywhere and makes the job harder. You can literally just wipe it off and call it done. The detail spray is removed just as easily.
Here's the best part: You will find that you can do an entire freshly washed and clean car in about 20 minutes if you go at a moderate pace.
End Result
As far as shine, it is very good right after it is applied. Like any polish or a wax, the shine does fade slightly as time goes on under daily usage so adding a second coat is suggested to help this and results may vary depending on the usual factors of the elements, etc... Rain resistance is good but it does appear to attract a bit more dust than other waxes and polishes. The upside to this is that it looks good on any surface it is intended to be used on (see "Initial Impression" above) since you don't have to worry about accidentally getting it on other surfaces such as trim and chrome. The only major surface that is should not get on is glass.
The Last Word
This stuff does very well at for a quick job before cruising around or even a touch up at a car show because it can be applied VERY quickly and easily. While it does not seem to have the lasting power or dust repellency of more time-consuming products, the initial shine is more than acceptable and the ease of use and simple application makes up for that. Recommended for general usage and is a good buy for the money. Give it a try.

Good review - very accurate to my experience with the product.
A little sure goes a long way with this stuff - which I found was made possible by their applicator (the foam allowed it to spread easier and NOT be absorbed as much into the applicator)
One last comment is that though a second coat will help, this wax/polish was designed to be self-cleaning. So, layering has extra benefits.
Re: Quick Review - Turtle Wax Ice
Your review is pretty much the same impression I got using it... When I "ICED" it the second time, I used a rag to apply it since the stuff just absorbs right into the applicator pad to your hands... But the pad works better applying it in my opinion though, but is messy... It is a great product for car shows and a quick detail... When I put it on a couple light scratches on my door, they were a lot less noticable... After buffing it off, you could see them again, but not as bad as before... I've had it on my car for a couple weeks and it still has a pretty good shine and dust/pollen comes off quickly when I use my car duster every morning... It's ok on textured plastics like the cowling at the base of the windshield and wiper covers... But Armor-All etc would give a better shine... Overall I give it a
as well.
Re: Quick Review - Turtle Wax Ice
I've always been skeptical of the longevity of any spray-on detailing product.
I know they're quicker to apply but relative to how long they last I wonder how it all works out in the end?

Re: Quick Review - Turtle Wax Ice
This stuff seems more like a coating than an actual wax or polish... It's not a product I'd use one time to protect my cars finish for a long period of time if I had to... I'd use a regular wax for that... But it's great for in between waxes for a quick on/off and go.

And yes - it feels more like a polish....if you read my other post in my thread, I was extremely confused at first if it was even supposed to offer any protection.
