Mothers Clay Bar OWNS!!!

My first post in this forum I believe!!

I'd just like to share my bad-*** over-spray situation here with whoever is reading.

Last year painting(With silver rattle can paint) the rollbar in my convertible and my friend and I kind of neglected to take proper masking time if you will... All said and done, the rollbar looked great, and my car had new overspray graphics which were not planned....

Well after at least a year of letting that overspray dry, i finally went out and bought a Mother's Clay Bar setup for like $16 and tried it on my oversprayed red paint... Right before my damn eyes the overspray was coming off with ease. Now I have to do the entire car because the old affected areas are now the best looking parts of my car...

Anyone who wants to get overspray, sap, waterspots..anything off your paint...go get a claybar!

Now I wish I was being payed to be so nice about aproduct..ah well. Have fun fellas! Spring is HERE!(In Michigan finally, if that sounded wierd to anyone sitting in 100% year round sunshine..)

Thumbs up

I'm a big fan of clay barring the car! IMO clay is a miracle product when it comes to removing contaminants that are embedded into the finish and restoring that silky smooth feel. And, I personally think it makes a difference in appearance of the finish too.

As far as what clay bars work great.....Mother's is a great local bar as is Clay Magic. I like the Zaino clay myself as my first choice, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the other two if need be. I will never use the Meguiar's clay again, buyer beware....

Clay may or may not get rid of old bug spots. Some bug guts are very acidic and will etch the paint surface if left untreated. Clay will not restore paint etching. It will take a strong abrasive to level out the surface of the paint where the etching occured. Clay would remove fresh bug spots, but that's about it.

Talking

I'm with Mike about the Meguiar's. I bought some, and it is a pos. I wouldn't use it on a Ford.

I used a Meguairs once and once only. I spent more time cleaning little pieces of clay off the surface than I did claying the car. I've used Mothers numerous times with great results, but I finally bought a Zaino clay bar this year. My rims really need it!

I am a huge fan of the clay bar. I got incredible results on my Silver WS6 about a year ago!

the clay may take them off but most likely not...i have a lot of the "etches" in my front end and they didnt go away even after 3M 39009, they're too deep...you either have to get it repainted or just deal w/it...

100% fan of Mother's.

Haven't tried Zaino's yet.

Kind of afraid too, after having such good luck with Mother's.

Autozone hasn't carried Meguiar's clay for sometime now. They carry Clay Magic these days, and it works very good.

Yup, you're right. I remember the Meguiar's being the first clay I ever used several years ago, and I got it at AZ. It did leave the surface smooth and all, but the streaks and mess to cleanup was horrible. But, since that was my first claying I thought this might be normal, as I was pleased with most of Meg's products back then. After having used several high quality clays now, I can vouch that the Meguiar's is utter crap! Makes a simple process much harder than it needs to be....

I bought a Meguiar's clay bar a couple of years ago, because a local store was closing them out for $5. I wasted $5. No matter how much lube I used, it would either stick to the car or glide right over the grit. It was also crumbling. Before I had used Clay Magic, and no problems. Did what it said. Anybody want what's left of the Meguiar's pos?
