Not all waxes/sealants have silicones, and there are different types of silicone, so you can't throw out a generic "silicone" and cover everything.

 

Agreed. Typically the better grades of pure waxes will not have silicone additives.

I've never had a wax that produced "fisheyes" on a paint surface; but I'm not doubting that it could happen.

 

what is the purpose of the clay bar? how can it help? I have an 02 which has prestine paint. a buddy of mine said i should clay bar it.

 

Claybars remove embedded surface contamination, and almost every car (even brand new) can benefit from clay.

It's not pristine if it hasn't been clayed

It won't remove paint. Claying will strip with wax at the same time - no need to do it before hand.

 

Is it a rub on, rub off deal? and after that, should i compound? or just wax/sealant?

my routine as been just wash, 2 coats of wax. but will the clay rub take care of surface scratches? I am always looking for better results. i have been using meguiers, and have been happy with it....but now everyone is talking about zaino products.

 

You gently glide the claybar across your finish using a lubricant or quick detailer.

If your car is in pristine condition as you say, there should be absolutely no reason to use a compound on it. Compounds are meant to remove or lessen severe damage.

If your car doesn't have any swirls or scratches to deal with, you can go straight to your wax/sealant after claying.

 

the paint is very good...but every car...even new...has small scratchs or swirl makes in them. just from the dealer cleaning them. will the clay bar get rid of those?

 

Not every car has those problems - it depends on your particular vehicle, your dealer, etc.

Claying won't remove swirls. It only removes contamintation.

i know....that is what my car looks like after i am done with it. the surface swirls are so light that the wax completely fills them in. i just wanted to know if hte clay bar would do a better job of it.

Well update!
I clayed it, used the mothers Cleaner wax once and then the Meguiars NXT to finish it up.

It came out great! the best part about the Meguiars IMO was no dust, I did it about 2 weeks ago and it still shins even though the roads have been yucky, I havent had a need to wash it lately!

A few People at my work noiced it's even more shiny then usual! Makes me happy!

I'm getting the hood/ rear bumper re-painted on the 19th, I'm going away for a few weeks then back to school so I'm not concerned about waxing them for a wile.

The clay didnt remove as much particles as I thought it would, but even though the car was clean to begin with, it feels even smoother IMO the road salt is really only dust, and I can just power wash it off easily and it definately shines

I'll post some pics in the spring and after I get the summer wheels back on

 

Are you refering to my pic? My swirls were not filled, they were removed with an abrassive polish. And like ZaneO stated several times, the clay bar only removes surface contaminants, and does nothing to swirls. You need an abrassive polish to remove swirls and either a heavy wax or better a glaze to hide swirls. Feel your car's surface after you wash your car, while its still wet, you'll see what surface contaminants we are talking about.
