Help me bring my paint back to life
Help me bring my paint back to life
Okay, about a month ago I bought an 84 Z. The paint is not too bad on it. It looks like the previous owners just let it sit and the sprinklers must have hit the car and there are some really bad water spots. I have clayed the whole car and it made it super smooth but did not really take the water spots out. The windows are a little hazy too. Should I use Meguiars body scrub or 3M Swirl remover to help remove the water spots? Do you think because it is older I should go with 3M?
For the windows you will want to get some Zaino Z-12 Glass Polish to remove the have and water spots on them, it is the only glass product I have ever used that will do this.
On the paint you will most likely not fix the paint in one or two steps, it will take more than that, read on:
The 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009 is very mild, it may not be strong enough to remove or cut down your surface defects.
If you want to do it yourself and come out right the first time you will need to purchase an ORBITAL buffer, one of the very best can be purchased at Lowes, it is the Porter Cable orbital buffer/sander with adjustable speed, model number 7336 cost 109.00. Use the foam pad that comes with the buffer kit. Start with 3M Finesse It II machine compound and then work that into the paint with the buffer until the product thins out, then remove it BEFORE it dries, inspect the surface to see if the paint is getting better, you will then need to wash the foam pad and start on phase two which is doing the entire car with the buffer and foam pad using the 3M Swirl Mark Remover part number 39009 again, work this into the paint until it breaks down from a paste to an oil and remove it BEFORE it dries.
If you want to go one more step for an all out finish, you can add step three which is to buff the car with the foam pad and porter cable using 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and remove while wet.
At this point I like to wash the car as you have put a lot of products on it to remove extra oils and buffer sling. Now you should be able to apply your final finish wax or durable polish that you have selected (Zaino in my case) for extended use.
