well, i haven't painted in a while. My 94 could use new paint, so i'm going to do that since it's not very costly. i'm going to do factory onyx black base/clear. I have a pretty good Mac hvlp gun and a good enough compressor, but i'm more wondering about all the plastic on the car. the bumpers will need a flex agent, but what about the rest of it. anybody found any way better than another to approach that? how many coats of each? anything? thanks!
not so much the doors and hatch...but definitely the bumper covers and such will need a flex agent.
I will also add to this....choose a good primer...do not go cheap. Back in the day with laquer paints...any kind of primer would work well...with the new base and clear paints....the primer can effect the entire paint job. This is especially important on the front fenders, bumper covers...Go for it!

There is no way i would paint the doors or the roof or the hatch without flex agent. Watch the hatch when you close it it flexes and so do the doors. the roof "waves" a bit in the wind too. trust me on this.
flex agent
PPG reccomends using it, if the parts are off the car when being painted. If you use a good Epoxy primer, and follow the directions on the paint can, you dont need it. It wont stop the paint on a bumber from cracking, if you hit something, and it flexes real hard. Try these websites they are very informative.
