Is it a new one? If so, let it sit out on some newspapers for a LONG time. I let mine set out for about a week, turning every day to make sure it's was as dry as I can get it. Otherwise, use it lightly across the surface letting the tips of the yarn JUST touch the surface.. no grinding. Remember it's a duster, not a replacement for a washing your car. Aside from that, just shake it out when you are done with it and you are good to go. You may get a few streaks the first couple of times you use it. They will wipe right off using the quick detail spray of your choice.

Streaks of wax from the duster. It uses parrafin wax to grab the dust. That's also why it must dry before use, and shouldn't be used on a hot car.
