39009 and buffer?s

I just bought a 6" and a 10" random orbit buffers. Included are thin blue wax applicator bonnets, terry cloth bonnets and wool (looks like it anyway) bonnets. The 3M 39009 suggests using a foam pad. I looked at Sears, AutoZone and Advance Auto for the foam. All that I found were the terry cloth and wool looking bonnets. Where can I find the foam pads to use with 39009?

What the best way to remove the 39009 after it is apllied, if anything is left to remove? Can I just use the same towels that I use for the Zaino?

Finally, clay and then 39009, right?

Thanks

My autozone has yellow colored foam bonnetts on the bottom most shelf where the waxes are, most all Autozones I have been in are arranged the same, might want to look again, my WalMart and Advance auto parts also has them.

You want to Clay FIRST and then use the 3M

You DO NOT use the same towels for the 3M as you do when removing the Zaino. 3M is an ABRASIVE, you do not want these abrasives hung up in your best towels when wiping off the Zaino polish or the Z-6 spray. Use a slightly older towel to remove the 3M which where will be residue after activating the buffer. Do not buff until the product is dry, only to the point where the 3M breaks down from an paste to an oil, DO NOT let the 3M dry on the paint, remove while wet with the towel.

Wash with Dawn after the 3M and then apply the Zaino Z-5.

Should I apply pressure to the buffer when I first start an area and then remove the slight pressure when it turns to an oil or vice versa? Any tips? This is the first time I've ever had the need for a buffer and is the first time I will have ever used a buffer. While the engine work was being done it didn't get the attention it needed so I am starting from scratch...which means you'll get another order shortly.

Thanks.

Use the same amount of pressure from start to finish, use firm two handed pressure slightly flattening out the buffing bonnett. Appy the 3M to the paint in a couple lines and rub the bonnett on the product spreading it around BEFORE activating the buffer, then turn it on and buff until the product breaks down.

I am also going to use 3M so let me get this straight.

Aply 3M to pad
Let 3M dry on pad
buff until 3M breaks down from paste to an oil
Remove with towel

Is that right?

Let 3M dry on pad? where did you get that? I don't understand.

Put a couple lines on the buffer pad, smooth around the 3M between the buffer pad and the paint before you activate the buffer, then activate the buffer, buff until the product thins out into an oil, then remove immediately with the towel.

Depends on the speed of the head, no way to measure in time.
