Engine was originally professionally built, set up for 11:1 CR and built to handle a 300 shot of nitrous. I've never run nitrous on it since converting to a 396. It made 427 RWHP through an A4 with the 236/242 cam. Probably has more in it if you want to run a bigger cam. I've only put about 3000 miles on the engine since the rebuild. It has 2 minor problems: (1) I believe it was not balanced correctly as there's more "shake" in the car than I would want in a daily driver, (2) it consumes oil on 2 cylinders, which I believe are from worn valve guides on those cylinders. Both of these are easily fixable, but I've kind of lost interest in this car since buying a C5 and I haven't put more than 100 miles on it in the last year or so.

The engine is currently installed in my 94 Z28 and available to be seen and driven (I'm near Washington, DC). I would be willing to take offers on the whole car for a local buyer, but right now I'm planning on putting a mild 350 back into it.

I'd like to get $5000 for everything. I'm not interested in parting it out, but if you're a serious buyer and don't want a couple odds and ends that I can sell separately, I'll work with you. Contact me via PM as I don't check this board that often.

Re: FS: 396ci LT1 engine

I'm about to pull this engine out (finally! too many other projects) so I thought I would list it again. I had a lot of interest in the top end, but I'm not separating it unless I first get a buyer for the shortblock. I'd still rather sell it complete, but I'll take offers for the shortblock (assembled, not parted) including all the other stuff below the heads. Don't bother low-balling, I'm not desperate for cash, so price it out and make a fair offer. Oh, and I am willing to sell the whole car for $11k right now as-is, PM me in the next couple of days for more details if you're interested.

Re: FS: 396ci LT1 engine

id actually buy the whole engine for that price if you still had it in feb, because i was planning on doing almost the same setup! who ported the heads/intake and how much did they port it?
thanks

p.s. but i just dont know how much it would cost a shop to fix that problem...

if you are not able to sell the whole engine by then, then ill just buy the heads/cam/intake for my heads/cam setup... cause those are the same that i was planning to get so it would be helpful.
thanks

Heads were ported by Morgan Motorsports in CA, I don't know the current runner volumes, but as I understand it 227cc is the bare casting, so it's bigger than that. Intake ports are matched to the bigger LT4 HP gaskets.

Re-balancing shouldn't cost more than $200 or so, assuming you do the labor. Valve guides I'm not sure but probably not much more. Other components such as rings/bearings should be good as it doesn't have many miles on it and I didn't get a chance to run it hard. A couple times on the dyno and once at the track and that's it. I may just fix those problems myself if this doesn't move right away, but if I do so I may decide to just keep the engine. Take advantage while I'm still indecisive! ;-)
