where to find methanol?
Commonly refered to as "Water Injection" the methanol is actually less effective than pure water for power increasing purposes. It is usually added just to prevent icing in the system or nozzles. I've had a fair bit of experience with this topic. Mostly on 2500 BHP radial engines and a few SBC and BBC engines. Methanol is actually the correct term for "wood alcohol" and is similar to ethyl alcohol (vodka, etc. made from veggies like potatoes, corn etc.) but if you drink it, it will first blind you (goes directly to the optic nerve and fries it!) and then kills you. If you use it, wear safety goggles or something to prevent a splash in the eyes. I have a friend at MIT who is now a one-eyed professor since he squirted some into his eye while I watched helplessly... Sorry about the lesson, but it was a tough one for him (and me...)
