Wanted: junior computer/IT person to work with our company

Hey guys... We're in need of a junior level computer geek... We'll be hiring by Dec. 1st.

There will be no advertisments, its strickly by word of mouth.

Its working with Sybase 12.5 and a custom written toolset that you'd have to be trained on. Its not that hard, but its a very structurial system.

There isn't much room for growth at this point, and you'd need to have no problems doing the same thing for days on end

We're a direct mail marketing company (read: NO SPAM, we do mailings for Vancity, Telus, Citizens Bank customers, etc...)

You'd be preping files for mailshops, running hundreds of thounsands of records through our system, which includes Canada Post Address accuracy standards, segmenting based on any number of criteria and reporting back to account managers.

Any Database skills would be an asset, SQL knowledge mostly as there would be no real dba work involved (thats my job )

But again, this is a junior level position, with salary in the high 20's, but we have KILLER benefits... An increditable office on west georgia, right down by stanley park.

if anyones interested, email me there resume (salary requirments if you want, but again, this is a junior position, so anything even remotely high will be tossed straight in the garbage, unfortunately) and i'll forward it along to my boss for review.

Thanks!

Jeff

yea really... low 20's a year really sucks...

but Payam, your in a hard spot...

the market got FLOODED the past 5 years with IT people, and of course the big tech crash... its not a good time to getting involved with computers honestly...

jobs are far and few between... and those that are around, pay crappy... Unless you have 10 years experience and manage to find someone in desperate NEED of unix admin or high level programming...

I just hope you don't have the attitude that i find alot of grads do. In which they think cause they have this fancy degree they deserve some great job... hehe If your willing to start out small, be sure to tell potental companys that, but your also sorta shooting yourself in the foot then...

its a toss up on which way to go... But time and money will dictake which route you have to take...

But good luck dude... You'll find something...

and don't ever think that schooling was a waste of time... it really wasn't!!

i wish i had a university degree

7 months of job-hunting and I only ever got ONE interview... luckily it was enough for me to get a job. And yes, I do mean low 20s, and yes, that is very low pay. But OTOH I get to spend a lot of time surfing the 'Net I work for TWU so there's a ton of job security also.

Seeing how my bro is graduating with a Bachlors of Business Administration in May I doubt he'll bite for low 20's Canadian... but I'll ask (he is in Simon Frazier so it may be convienent if he can wrap his schedule around it).

I'll send him the info.

I have to agree, can't ever say anything bad about schooling, do as much as you can I wish I had my degree so I could teach at BCIT now. Also don't hesitate to take jobs that will help you build experience. Experience is just as if not more important than education

That $$$ SUCKS!!! I made that much part time with 20 hrs a week...as a Valet!

You guys should just go back to school. It's not worth it to make that little amount after so many years of hard work at school. For example, we had a night at BCIT a few weeks ago and I got a chance to talk with a few marketing grads. The lowest salary I heard was $30,000 PLUS commission...something to think about. An MBA might be good way to go these days, but it takes twice as long or more than the BCIT program.

Here's a little hint for you guys

Employers like to see that candidates have been working - even if the pay ain't great and the job "sucks". Nothing turns off interviewers more then seeing folks who refuse to work at jobs they consider "inferior" and thus sit idle. If you aren't able to find paying work, do work for free/volunteer - but do something! Because I guarantee you that there are people willing to work for much less $$$ with comparable skills, and you will lose out when the better jobs come available. Even more so if you have been idle while they have been working hard and building experience.

Working tough and relevant jobs for little money shows that you have a good work ethic, that you aren't lazy, and that you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty when the going gets tough.

Even though the pay isn't great this job sounds like a good idea for anyone who is out of school, unemployed and wants to get into the IT industry.

Stop thinking about just the paycheque - building a career should be much more prevalent on your minds.
