I think that lifting the sanctions would have been a very bad idea. It would have allowed Saddam to build a larger army and larger, more destructive weapons. Too many innocent people have lost their lives trying to take this guy out.... now imagine what it would be like if he was better equipped.

I think a better senario would have been to have him taken out a long time ago. I am very disappointed that the UN did not take this action years ago. What good are they if they sit on their *** and let guys like this stay in power?

I am kind of on the fence when deciding if I am for or against this war. The only thing preventing me from 100% supporting this event is that I really think this was the UN's responsibility and they should have acted a long time ago. Now a few countries have had to go and do the job themsevles. By doing this, they might seriously effect the influence the UN has.

 

Humm, so since Canada didn't enter this war and did not want to break the UN's will (like Britian and The United States did) Is it wrong for The United States to do so being that Canada has done it before as well. Meaning Why shake a finger at someone, when you have done the same. (hope this is not too murky)

The one thing that I look at is this. There was sactioning bodies before the UN and will be after. In effect it is just the majority group of people who want to unite together to make sure there is a ballance of power and not some wackjob attacking countries, commiting Genecide, and promoting in general extremily bad will.

On a side note, in a light effort Canada has been involved in the war in Iraq like I am sure most do know. (Tank armored division) Now with that being said, I am not sure if the Canada just did not want to commit more troops, did not want to say they were helping out or what but I do understand some of the politics that Cretian (sp) goes through as from what I understand BC is mostly a liberal community. (might be wrong but still)

No, I never stated that the US or Canada were wrong in their choice of ignoring the UN. Some people think it's wrong and some people think it's right. Thats why I don't think it should be up to an individual country to decide.

 

A little confusing here Steve.

On a FEDERAL level, BC tends to vote right wing and the party that gets the vote is the Canadian Alliance, NOT Liberal which tends to me a middle of the road party that dominates Ontario.

But on a PROVINCIAL basis, we again vote right wing but the PROVINCIAL right wing party is the Liberal party - the left wing being the New Democrats.

Understand? Good, please explain it to us because none of us do. LOL

I haven't read this thread resently but I have to say that US is full of crap, they are worried about what threat? Saddam has nothing, no weapons of mass destruction, nothing, why take him out of power? Ohh the US says "well its also about liberating the people" Bull$hit, Look what US did in Samalia & left, look at Africa, Black Africans are slaves to the whites & have no right there, the white man runs the show there, & its not even their land, does US care? Hell no, whats in Africa? Is there Oil? NO! So lets not go there. The only reason the states went to war with Iraq is cuz time was up, that 12 year Blockade on Iraq that was put on after the Gulf war so Iraq couldn't sell their oil for anything other than medicine was about to expire, US couldn't stand to see that happen & see Iraq make something of it self, they knew Iraq wasn't a threat with their 90 operational tanks & WWII riffles, it was an oportunity to bring up the falling economy of the US thanx to the Euro Dollar & other economic crisis including the events after September 11th so they had to go where the money is, & where it was easy to get. Same reason Senior Bush left Saddam in power after the Gulf War, heck leave Saddam as a constant threat to the Quaties & the money will come pouring in just to stand guard & protect those King Pings, take Saddam away & the Quaties will breach contract.

Its all about money, & trying out their new toys, what did the US do 2-3 days ago? Tested their biggest bomb they've got, wow a side job.

Thats what I know, & I have no beef with Americans, or Bush, Gord won the ellection but he was against war, congress didn't need that so they needed someone like Bush to follow through in an event like this, Congress aproved the 80 billion dollars, if they just cared about supporting coutries, well, that 80 billion can go a long way in support, but hey, no money lost, it'll come back 100 times bigger with the profit from the oil of coarse, Congress is a bunch of Jews, & jews are always at war with the muslims.

 

How about the fact that he is responsible for the deaths of millions of Iraqis, his regime used chemical weapons to kill thousands of Kurds, and his ruling Ba'ath party has tortured, raped, and killed opposition, dissenters, and innocents for over a decade.

Actually they have only used their second biggest bomb which funny enough is named after you - the Bunker Buster. Their largest bomb is called the MOAB and it is 10x larger then the bombs used to kill Saddam in the restaurant a few days ago. Or maybe you were referring to the test on MOAB they did over a month ago on US soil (which they hardly needed a war to justify the test since they did it before the war started).

Wow, I can see where this thread is going and am going sign off of it, to everyone who made good points and arguements thank you. We'll never know if the war is right or wrong but conversations like this make for a more educated public opinion (and results in better voting, etc)

If all goes well hopefully very soon Iraqis will be having these kinds of conversations without fear of thier whole families being arrested, beaten, tortures, raped, and murdered.

In bunkers defense, I don't think he meant that as a racist comment. I think he was just trying to say what the majority of the congress is and througout histories Muslims and Jews don't get along. As a result, they "supposedly" used their influence in the states to do this. I personnally don't agree with this, because partly I hope that we are above and beyond b@llsh@t like that.

Although, I would have to say that on a litttle less aggressive level Bunker raised some points that may have something to them. Does anyone have any responses? Escpecially to the oil thing?
