Rumours about Air-Care

I've been hearing some rumours concerning the future of air-care. From what I understand, air-care was meant to be a non-profit organization created to help maintain the air-quality we have here in the province my regulating the emmisions of vehicles on the road. Now from what I hear, air-care has been making a pretty penny the last few years & due to the fact that it was intended to be a non-profit organization they are thinking of eliminating it.

This seems unlikely, but I was wondering if anyone here could confirm either way?

Life without air-care would be nicer for most of the people on this board... but then again, coud you imagine the effect it would have on the air quality!

Heard that rumour a year ago, nothing happened. If its making money it will unlikely go away, guess they could AT LEAST test trucks too.

For those who don't know, Aircare is operated by a company owned by another California company. It is definitely NOT a non-profit deal. The profit is even GUARANTEED because they get paid for a minimum amount of cars/year even during the strike they had when NO cars were being done! The profits are sent to the STATES!

The contract for AirCare is up in 2006. Being that most cars on the road today pass the test with ease, it's expected that the contract will not be renewed.
