Question Power Stop Rotors

I just purchased a set of Power Stop Brake Rotors for the front and it says in the intructions that I have to use brand new brake pads when I first install them. My pads I have now aren't new but are no where near being used up. I figure at least 50% left.

Is this something I should pay attention to or just throw them on and not worry about it?

My buddy told me that if you were to just changed the rotors, but not the pads, then the grooves on the brake pads caused from your OLD rotors, would then cause the same grooves on your NEW rotor, therefore ruining it. (That's if your old rotors were bad)

It's something liek that, I'm not sure, hope it helps.

I don't think the pads will groove the rotor as the rotor is a harder material. When you use your brakes it's the pads that wear not the rotors. The used pads are worn in to the old rotors and may cause your new rotors to warp from overheating. Don't be cheap, buy new pads.

I just got the front set because the rears are brand new. I thought about the LS1 breaks but didn't feel all that hassle was nessary for the type of driving I do. Plus I think it would be over the head of the shop that is doing my work.

You could get away with re-using the pads, but I wouldn't recommend it either since the wear pattern on your used pads will take time to "mould" to the new rotors. In the process you will wear the rotors more then normal, and you will probably get some nice brake noises to boot.

You can get some nice carbon metallic pads for cheap anyhow...
