Actually, I need to pick up a helmet too.. anyone recommend a place in the Portland area to get one? any preferences of which one to get? I wear glasses, if that makes any difference.

They'll help you figure out what is best for your needs.
Ken: I've got t-tops and have been to both corvette day and cascade school. No roll bar here. It's possible someone may ask you to remove your tops so they don't come flying out like I was asked at the corvette day. Just told them I've got subframe connectors and he let it go. Older Camaro and vettes have had the t tops come flying off which is why they're concerned but I'm pretty sure you don't need a roll bar unless its a vert, assuming they haven't changed the rules for this year. If you get a helmet do yourself a favor and don't buy the bottom brands. A good helmet could be worth alot. Also they are more comfortable to wear as they breath better (cooler) and are lighter. Your next concern will be having too much fun, it's addicting.
Ken: you or anyone else are more than welcome to come out and autocross if you are concerned about the roll bar rule as there isn't one for autocrossing. I would ask though if going to the track. Like I said neither Cascade SCC nor the corvette club made me have one. Also if you've not autocrossed I'm sure you'll be surprised how much fun it is. It's also harder than it looks and will help alot on the road course too.

I haven't gone to a "real" SCCA AutoX yet, but I hope so this year..
I'll try to contact someone in person about the driver training at PIR to get the exact answer if I need a rollbar or not. Either way, I'd still wouldn't mind one to put in when I get my **** over to the tracks.
This summer I'm gonna try to make it to more events.... and then go from there
which events are you planning on going this year?

Your best bet is to contact the organization that is putting on the event. It's most likely up to Team Continental, Cascade SCC, or whatever group is renting the track for the day.
Many people wait until the Corvette club does their track day (if there's room)...they let convertibles run w/out roll bars.
Again, call the group running the event, not PIR. That's where you'll get your answer. Good luck, and have fun!
Next SCCA autocross is May 17, 18th. Let me know if you want to go either day and I'll meet you there. One day of that weekend I'm probably going to go to the season opener in Woodburn. Cascade has a school in early June. They are very helpful and worth every penny even though the price has nearly doubled do to the city of Portland. It's 189 and you'll be going about as fast as you can go on the track, possibly faster than you should have. The course is a ton of fun and I plan on going again most likely at the June class assuming it's not full. Hope to see you there. It's always nice to see some F cars as there aren't that many.
I'll most likely be at the Cascade June driver's school. I will be seeking a definitive answer from the Race Team about the regulations regarding T-Top cars. These driver's schools, although more costly this year, are a real blast. Usually there are much fewer cars in a school group than an actual race group, which can be both liked/disliked depending on if you like a little room and perfecting your personal bests!
I've heard folks pleased with CSCC, TC and SCCA schools, unfortunately, 16-18 year olds cannot compete in CSCC (and TC?) events yet, hopefully to be changed before long to allow more folks into this sport.
I believe that the driver's schools are excellent at expressing safety and car control, particularly useful to everyday driving and crash avoidance in soggy NW weather!

Excellent points RallyTransAm. Also I think the schools are an excellent idea for anybody who drives period. Regarding the t-tops I had no problem with Cascade school. Never even mentioned it to me. Hope to meet you there.
