I've autocrossed with a local car club in Salem.. The Williamette car club..

They are releated to a bigger club..emerald something something hehe.. I know they have a hillclimb, where they close off this 3 mile windy paved road and time you going thru it!

Actually, there are quite a few autocrossers in the Portland, OR area. Have you checked out the PIR schedule?

 

I was referring to people in Camaro's, there's only 4 of us. Just wondered why so few when it's such a good car to have fun in.

Do you guys ever have track days at PIR? Not talking about the parking lot in the middle, but rather on the full course? Now that would be fun.

I know its not portland But We are having a Show up at Pacific raceways in Augs that will have Autocrossing as well.

Yes, my husband, Steve, participates in several track days each year with Team Continental, Cascade Sports Car Club, and other car club's track days (Rose City Corvettes and others).
He has driven his '68 Camaro Coupe and our '69 Camaro Coupe when it had the 502 in it. He is currently in the process of putting an LS1 and a 6-speed in his '68 and plans on taking it to the track as much as he can afford.
One of these days I'll get out there with our '90 IROC or our '99 SS.

Thanks, I'll look into this. I've wanted to do something like this for a long time because it looks like a TON of fun. The only thing really holding me back is, putting my daily driver in a heat with other cars on a track that is capable of 130mph+ down the straights.

Don't let that hold you back. There are all kinds of cars that show up, from a Ford Ranger pickup, to a minivan, a Taurus and everything else you can think of.

Mike: there are plenty of track days at PIR. Just check their schedule at portlandraceway.com. Also Cascade Sports Car Club has a great school that is only 120 bucks that is a bargain. You learn alot and they don't hold you back at all. Being on the track with other inexperienced people will hardly cross your mind because it takes everything you got, at least it does for me but I'm fairly new too. By the end of the day you are exhausted and that's only several runs of 20 minutes. You can join the BMW club or the Porsche club for cheap to go to track days which are a hundred bucks. Guaranteed Fun! You may be amazed at how much fun autocrossing is too. It's much more fun and challenging than it looks.

Being a CSCC Member/Road Rallier, I highly recommend coming out to a Driver's Training school. I worked Cascade's March school, and there are folks out there with Hertz Rustangs for heaven's sake. Everyone has a blast, and they're geared for folks that have no, little, or some track experience. Each group is classified by experience level, and once on-track, drivers get to "push the pavement" further as the day goes on. A blast to watch or participate in.

Unfortunately, due to Vera Katz' price gouging campaign, PIR track rates have gone up and the Cascade school (and TC also, I believe) is now $189.00 for the classroom and On-Track Driver's Training, but includes lunch at least!

Check the websites for more than enough info on road racing. If you have a vehicle that prefers "rough surfaces" then maybe rallycrossing is for you! The difference is that we take a water truck out on a field to let folks target some cones! See www.oregonrally.com or www.oregonregion.com.

means I have to pick up a roll bar too since I have t-tops...

Actually, I need to pick up a helmet too.. anyone recommend a place in the Portland area to get one? any preferences of which one to get? I wear glasses, if that makes any difference.
