Re: Mission Raceway Tonight - Who's Racing

We went a week ago, got there around 6:30 and ran a total of two runs. And then we went again Friday, Sept 3rd, got there late, and got one run in. The last ones to run were the Sport Compact.

The King of the Hill Class seems to take all the time and get all the time at MRP. Out of 250 entrants, the 32 that join the K.o.t.H. Class, run an extra 3-5 runs for an additional 5 bucks, while all of us who paid 23 bucks, get a total of 2-3 runs. We get to watch a 10 second Camaro car run against a 19 second Chevette. Who-hoo! Yeah, that’s what I have always wanted to see. Some guy who invested $30,000.00 beat out by a $300.00 dollar beater. Yeah, that’s racing!!!!! Damn, why bother spending tons of money and oodles of time wrenching, if a f’in $300.00 beater supposedly is King of the Hill.

My guess is that MRP is trying to convert street racers into f’in bracket racers! Sorry to vent, but they **** me off.

As for tech, I could see there validity if we were driving on the street and if MRP would be accountable for any accidents, but they aren’t, so why not allow the misdemeanors slide by. They act like such authorities, when in reality, it is just a facade!

Below is my Email to Mission.
Not that it will help but can't hurt.
Email them let them know your feelings maybe if they get flooded with mail it might ,,,,,,,,,,, well probably not.
Hello, I just wanted to comment on the Friday Night Drags.
I question the direction it appears to be going in.
My understanding was the purpose was to give street car owners a place to go and legally run their cars.
It seems that there are more and more trailered full on race cars running using the Street Legals as test nights. While many of these cars may have plates or TOPs stuck on the windows they are not cars that ever see the road, much less comply with the Motor Vehicle Act.
While these cars are exciting to watch , the guy that pays his $23.00 to run his street car ends up getting fewer and fewer trips down the quarter. Many people who can't take the afternoon off show up in the late afternoon and are lucky to get 2-3 runs .
A couple of weeks ago you added King of the Hill .
I was nose to the gate before 3:00 PM, one of the first cars through tech and one of the first cars in the lanes. By closing I netted four passes, most had three or less.
The select few that ran King Of The Hill also got to run their respective Street Legal rounds as well .
I question adding the King Of The Hill on Friday nights as it is unfair to a majority of people out there.
If you are going to keep it, what about restricting those cars to that and remove them from the rest of the rounds.
Can't we keep the Friday Night Street Legals as what it was intended?
A place for guys to run their real street cars, not race cars that already have their track time during your week end events.
If it is a matter of getting enough cars I am sure you would see more out there if they thought they would get more than 3 runs in 6 hours and I am sure if you raised the admission they would still come as long as they didn't have to lean on the fence watching the "big kids".
Are you planning on keeping the King of the Hill?
I think if you took a pole you would find the majority is not in favor of it as it really is not fair to the average guy just trying to see what his car will do and racing his buddies heads up .
Thanks for listening

This is Anthony can you keep us posted on mission response? This is why I do not go to the track because of the lack of runs for the money we pay.

I think they should have 2 street legal nights.

Perhaps one import and one domestic - given that you rarely see import versus domestic line up together anyway.

Tat being said guys, I think the track targets $3,000 in revenue to jutify opening so 100 cars would have to pay $30. But I'd pay more to get more runs.

Re: Mission Raceway Tonight - Who's Racing

I honestly think that writing a leter to them wont do a bit of good. They need a mininmum of $2500 to break even. M.R.P. doesn't care if somebody only gets 2-3 runs in. It just meens that there's more cars there and there's not enough time to run them all. The fewer runs we get equals more money for them.

I went on the mustang board and it seems the M.R.P. is converting some of them into street racers as well.

Re: Mission Raceway Tonight - Who's Racing

I have to agree the track seems to be slipping on it's focus here and well I can see why some choose street racing over the track. They need to make some changes and I agree there should be two nights fri for imports and sat for domestics and vice versa, the CPSA can have there own nights and all these other cars that are not techically street legal should be put into there own group. As well I wish they can start doing some track prep for the SL nights, they pay a lot of attention to track prep for the CPSA crew which is understandable but they do barely any accomadation for the street cars. Nice letter Gerry We all need to send our thoughts to MRP as well as ICBC, if ICBC wants the street racing to stop they need to step in and help make some changes.

Re: Mission Raceway Tonight - Who's Racing

they do prep the track, its just street tires destroy the track surface, and whatever they do will be in vein unless they are running slicks or et streets. the reason why they prep more for the high hp cars is because its 100x more dangerous for them to run on a messed up surface. its all about car needs. and dont worry even the fast guys dont get the track prep they need cuz every round that goes by the surface gets attacked by street tires and when it gets dark no amount of VHT will hold you when the dewpoint drops.
