I don't think they're anywhere near the same class

 

cuz my idiot friend whose obsessed with old cars says the chevelle will beat the corvette, we're talking both stock cars here

 

..you can't even compare the two, it's like saying a chevette against an LS1....for one the Chevelle is way to heavy...you're looking at 15 sec. in a 1/4.....bottom line you can't compare old school with new...it's a different kind of expectation...back then gas was cheap therefore the cars can be heavy as **** and produce mass amount of torque and little hp...it take more gas to get the car going....now gas is so expensive it's all about high RPM and hp....even an 71 LS6 big block dosen't compare....BTW, use these threads for the lounge..

 

The Fastest Chevelle was the 1970 LS6 with the 450hp 454cid. They run low 13's
Although there were very rare Chevelles made like the yenko that may have hit 12's.
And remember these times are on slicks.
So to answer your question you can't really compare the old to the new. The Z06 can hit mid 12's on street tires. And the Lingenfelter???????? Forget About it!!!!!!!
