A big thanks to Shaun and Sandeep, we have
got most of the header install done. But we are
@ the point where we need a couple more experienced
guy's to help finish her off. All that is left is to cut, crimp
& run the Taylor wires, hook up the intermediate &
Y pipe to the headers and install the alt and starter.
Then fire her up.

Anybody who is able to lend a hand tomorrow July 4th
to start @ 10:30-11:00 am it would be greatly
appreciated.
We R doing this @ Shaun's house: 6131-169A street, surrey.
Post or PM me if you can make it.

Thanx in advance!
Steven

As Steve says, the back of the project is broken, maybe only 2-3 hours left but someone with some experience would be appreciated at this time as my first attempts at making the LT1 boot ends have been........ well..........poor.

Well another modded f-body is out on the road.

Steve has a VERY clean, low mileage, red SS which now has some new headers plugs and wires. Unfortunately we spent a fair amount of time trying to make the over-the-valve cover looms work but it was not to be.

Nonetheless, Steve and I laboured on as best we could until once again, Cory arrived to pull my *** out of the fire and then we really started to get things back together. So once again, a big shout out to Cory.

Hopefully Steve felt a SOTP improvement.

Hey there Shaun,
Yes I did feel an improvement with the new header, wires
and plugs
Thanx again Shaun for taking the time out of your busy
schedule & a whole week-end to get this done
She ran great on the way home, sound nice with the
throttle down too
PS, Cory really was a lifesaver!

Cheers...

Do I sense a possible sale Steve?

Sorry I couldn't make it out for Sunday, but I'm glad you got it all back together. Steve you left the flange that we cut out in my car. Do you still want that back or should I toss it?
Can't wait to see the new dyno numbers! It should have woken your car up qute a bit. I bet you went through half a tank of gas getting home. Pedal to the metal baby!!!

Cory you're my hero....almost. A real hero would have been able to install the opti ends on the Taylors

Auto mechanics these days sheesh!

Well Mike, maybe if you had sold him a kit that worked better they wouldnt have had so much trouble. You ever try sliding the opti end onto the wire? Didnt think so. The boots are really tight onto the wire even with the silicone spray. We *could* have done the taylors but that would have eaten up more time. The msd premade kits actually fit fairly well except for the fact the 8.5mm are a little too big for the factory clips. Requires a few zap straps to fix that. The edelbrock headers fit very nicely as well. Probably the best fit I have seen on a LT1.
Anyhow, The car went away running on all 8 and with no leaks which is what we were after. I think I drank enough beer to make it worth while .

Do I detect a defensive tone in your response. Lol.

I know they are a bitch but they are a very good fit for the factory clips if you can overcome the"BOOTS FROM HELL".

IF the valve cover looms had been viable, then perhaps we would have kept at it, but because of the air pump fitting on the headers, the looms were positively a no go.

We wrestled getting the opti boots on for a LONG time and then given the loom issue, decided to move on to plan B - which actually worked very well.

Hey everyone,
I think all in all the install went pretty good,
everybody did a great job & things came together
the way it needed too. I think I had more trouble
with those damn drivers side flange bolts @ the header
more than anything.

Sandeep, we accomplished a hell of alot on saturday
with you there, cheers! You can also chuck that flange.

I am going to sell the wires though! Those opti boots
are a pain in the a$$.

Cheers!

Arrow

The trick is to drill the boots out a little to get the wire through easier, but they are still a pain.

I think the issue is with getting them on to the opti. If that was the case what you need to do is to trim the wires inside the opti boot to make them thinner and crim the fitting on even tighter. Then put the silicone on. This should make them slip into the connectors alot easier. Been ther done that.

Steve DID suggest that we try and drill out the rubber boots but candidly I thought that was going to be a giant pain as well.

ADD to that the fact that you have to thread them from the plug to the opti and THEN try and dress the opti boots whilst cramped up in the engine bay (although I guess you could cut the wire and then re&re but again, just more valueable time)

Nope, getting the Taylor made OEM replacents was the best course of action. or else Steve would STILL be in my driveway LOL
