V8 RX-7 Owner

Hey all, just wanted to say hello. For the last few years I've been playing with my RX-7, which I swapped an LT1 and T56 into a few years ago. Unfortunately it recently spun a rod bearing during an autocross. I joined up primarily to part out the LT1 and possibly step up to an LS1. We shall see how it goes.

That last vid is like finger nails on a chalkboard. yikes! There are a couple of members here who've swapped in an LS1 into a rx7. Perfect platform to do a swap into! Start a build thread!

Well, it was a sweet build, and you most likely learned a lot from it. Welcome to the fourms and good luck on your rebuild.

The bearings on #6 actually got so thin that they slid under each other. They had definitely seen better days. I'm not sure what caused it, either mileage or oil starvation I suppose although I wouldn't expect my car to corner hard enough on street tires to starve the pump.

I definitely did, it was a great learning experience. Before this the most I had done was simple bolt on work.

I'm not quite sure what I will do yet. I'd really enjoy an LS1 but now that I'm into autocross I'm not sure that's the best way to go. The SCCA doesn't class cross-manufacturer engine swaps too kindly.

so what was the lt1/t56? not stock manufacturer installed. The ls1 would be better due to being lighter.

I did the LT1/T56 swap into my RX-7 before I knew I was going to get into autocross. The LS1 would be be a huge upgrade because of the weight and because of the better design, but I'd still end up racing against fully prepped race cars. If it was a Trans Am LT1 to LS1 swap that wouldn't be as big of a deal class-wise, but I don't have the money to make the RX-7 competitive with a V8 because of everything else that would be needed.
