New guy from East Texas

Hey everyone, just joined the forum and looking forward to some good advice in the near future. I've got a modded 04 Silverado SS that isnt so great on gas so I'm picking up a 95 z28 for a DD. The car only has 88k miles on it and runs perfect, only thing wrong with it is third gear is slipping. Anyone encountered slipping in the tranny that was a relatively small fix such as a fluid flush and filter change and maybe a shift kit and servos? I'd really like to be able to avoid rebuilding the trans right now because with buying the car and having to drive quite a ways to pick it up I will be tight on cash after the deal. I'm definitely an f-body noob but not new to cars/trucks in general. All the work done to my SS was done by myself with the exception of the transmission build so I know how to turn a wrench and bust some knuckles, lol. Looking forward to getting to know some of you!

Zach

Here's some pics of my truck for everyone to enjoy, I'll try and post up some pics of the z when i I get them on my computer!

Welcome to the site. Try the tech forums for tranny advice. I know that changing the bands in mine usually cures the slipping but I have someone else do that for me as transmissions to me are like "speaking Greek".

Re: New guy from East Texas

Thanks guys! I'll be sure to get up some pics of the car when I can. For a almost 16 year old car it sure is in great shape! Did they go to obd2 in late 95 or start in 96? I'm nt sure which this car has yet but I'm really hoping that it's obd2 for tuning reasons. Thanks for the warm welcome fellas!

95 LT1 has an OBD-I computer (PCM) that is virtually identical to the 94. But the 95 has a 16-pin OBD-II style ALDL connector, which really confuses people. To scan it, you need an OBD-I scanner (not the kind that shorts the ALDL pins - 93 was the last year that worked), and a 12-pin-->16-pin adapter plug. Or you need to jumper the 12-pin connector to the 95's 16-pin connector, as shown on Shoebox's site:

You might want to take a good look at Shoebox's site. It has everything you need to know about your LT1, and most of it is for your 95, because that's what Shoebox owns.

Alright cool, I'll definitely check out his site. So what can really be done as far as tuning on the obd1 computers?

Angry Re: New guy from East Texas

So I FINALLY got some pics of the car and all I can say is I'm a little bit pissed off... After a couple weeks of the guy telling me what "great" shape the entire car is in and how the only exterior flaws in the body are a couple of small door ding like dents and some "light" scratches that can be buffed out I see this...
Name: 028.jpg
Views: 5
Size: 140.3 KB
Name: 027.jpg
Views: 11
Size: 122.5 KB
Name: 029.jpg

Size: 168.9 KB

In the first picture you can see scratches and missing paint around the corner of the headlight and hood seam...the second and third pictures are pretty apparent. Looks like it was fish tailed into a pole then drug down a freaking guard rail or something. So much for "GREAT SHAPE" So what do you guys think? Worth it to buy the car or not now? Any idea on what it would cost for a repair...? I know the paint would never match being its nearly 16 years old but I'm not looking to tie up a bunch of money in this damn thing.

Re: New guy from East Texas

More greetings from Beaumont, TX. How much is the guy asking for it? Unless it is the mother of all deals, w/ that body damage & trans issues, I'd pass.

Re: New guy from East Texas

Pass, I called this one guy about his Z28 that he had advertised with 55K miles on it. I was psyched and ready to go pick it up. I call again to make an appointment to check out the car, he comes clean about it really having 155K. Are you f***ing kidding me? I told him I'd call him back and never did
If they can't be honest about the car from the beginning, who knows what else he ain't telling you about it?

The Z28 that I ended up picking up, with 86K, was owned by a Doctor out in Tucson. He was very honest about the history of the car, original owner. He had the paperwork to back it up. I told him I'd buy it without even a test drive. This February it'll be 2 years that I've owned it, only replaced a waterpump and a radiator hose, and still love it.

Do your homework and you'll pick up a nicer Z28 for less money than the amount you'll spend on this one. There was a 95 Z, Patiot Red,85K,Auto, in the classifieds for $3,500 OBO the other day, Good luck.

Re: New guy from East Texas

The original deal on the car was 1500 so it's pretty damn cheap to start with. Now that I know it has damage I would offer him even less y'all still think it's a bad idea??
