? for people with cammed LT1's

Hi all,
So I'm getting ready for the old engine rebuild and I'm trying to pick out a cam. I have a '95 so I am subject to an actual sniffer test, not the OBDII plug in test. Does anyone use a cam that will pass mass. emmissions? If so, which one? I am thinking of the HOTcam, but I've heard mixed answers about emissions levels.

I passed the sniffer no problem with the HotCam kit on my 383. I tuned with LT1 edit. Pretty easy actually.

I think the hotcam is one of the few that will pass our horrible emissions. The CC305 MIGHT pass but not to sure.

DiabloGT, do you have cats? IF not you fail, and they might fail you for the loudmouth since its incredibly loud. With a 396 you'd probly be running a large cam so I dont think it would pass.

Re: ? for people with cammed LT1's

I passed with a CC Xtreme 218/230 on a 114 - with the mods in my sig except the motor was the stock bottom end at the time. The LT4HOT is 218/228-112 and the CC305 is 220/230-114. I would say all these have about an equal chance of passing. Mine required some retarding of the timing. Others have had great success mixing in some alcohol. Probably a combo of both would be ideal. You also need some cats. From what I gather the stock cats are really good at cleaning the air because they have more platinum in them. Apparently aftermarket cats don't contain nearly so much to keep the cost down and are not required to last 5 yrs/60K miles. So aftermarket cats decline in effectiveness much quicker than the stock cat(s).

Engine size makes a difference. Going with a 383 or 396 you can get by with a bigger cam. I never did get the chance to do the treadmill with my 383 and the same cam. No, now I have to worry about going back to my original obd-2 pcm. At least Tunercat, the inexpensive alternative to LT1-Edit, is finally coming out with their OBD-2 software. It's not officially out yet but it's close.
