My boss has a 2002 silverado and wants to put it away for storage...and in doing so asked about ins. on the truck..is it more for commercial vehicles..and less for personal ones?? would like to know..he wants to not drive it anymore and keep it away..
but here is the info..its 2002 silverado with commercial plates..and wants it garaged..is it cheeper to store with commercial or personal plates? thats about it..and is there storage ins in MA. on cars??? and what co. if any?

Insurance will very by your accident experience (step points) personal insurance is usually cheaper than commericail but this also depends on where the car is garaged that is the point they use to base your insurance. Most important is the fact that you need to leave fire/theft&collision on the vechicle when it is in storage to protect your investment as homeowners and most storage centers do not cover your vechicle. I usually call my agent in Nov. and cut back my coverages and then rienstate them in April. For older cars you can get collector car insurance which allows you to drive any day you want (antique limits you to weekends and parades) you are limited to 3000 miles a year but gives you full coverage year round.

I have commertial plates on my truck. All I can tell you is that vehicles over a certain GVW, I think it's 10,000 or 12,000GVW, HAVE TO HAVE commertial plates. I don't know what kind of truck you're talking about though,if it's just a pickup it you can go either way. I had to have commertial plates. I had a 2002 2500HD right before this truck, and it costed me about $300 more with that truck than my current one with commertial plates. They usually interview you to determine how much you'll pay with commertial plates, the less you use it the less you pay. I'm paying $1200 a year on mine, I use it 1 or 2 weekends a month from spring until fall,no towing,no plowing, otherwise it's just personal transportation
