As for your question CamaroSS30thAnn, it seem that the integrated window switch can be used to enable the n20 arming switch but someone else will have to give an experienced answer. I'm really glad you started this thread btw.
so the mallory 685 and msd wirig harness 8877 and its straigh up plug and play eh

right one?

This is what I'm trying to figure out. It seems there was a change starting in 1996. I went to http://shbox.com looking for the views but I'm not certain what I'm looking for just yet. There is a view for the optispark harness for my 95 here: http://shbox.com/1/evap_sol.jpg but I'm not convinced this is where the msd harness would intersect. I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know what or where to look for a coil on this engine although I was under the car today, I saw nothing but the bottom of the optispark, air pump and overhanging water pump. It's something I haven't had to deal with until now. Hoping someone will guide us along at this point.

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

Wait one. Here's the link to the coil; http://shbox.com/coil/coil.html as Rob comes through again....

I will have to wait until tomorrow to get a good look at it though. Too dark now and I have to determine if access is from the bottom or top. Really sure it is from the top. I think I need to remove some of my CAI ducting. I need to figure out exactly what is meant by dual connection.

summit websites says the 8876 is for vehciles 86 or 87-95 and the 8877 for 96-2000

i took a jump and ordered the mallory 685 and the msd 8877 tonight, i hope all works out for me

now heres one more question , how does the box know when to retard the timing and when not to , say im not spraying will it still retard or not???

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

The box has an extra wire lead comming out of it...and "only" when that wire gets 12 volts applied to it, the retard circuit will then be active, and will retard the timing to where you have it set.......the nitrous arming switch is a good location for it.....

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

Here's something I found here that might prove useful as you connect the Mallory into the MSD harness:

Connecting MSD harness to Mallory Harness MSD to Mallory:

(MSD)Red to (MALLORY)Red
(MSD)Black to (MALLORY)Black
(MSD)White to (MALLORY)Green
(MSD)Orange to (MALLORY)Yellow

Obviously I can't verify the correctness of this but just to let you know there are some wire color differences to deal with.

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

I use the Mallory 685 myself. It is the perfect box for any application, N20 or boost. It has a boost retard, along with a single retard, the built in window switch, and the best is a secondary retard for launch or burn outs.

I personally wired this direct. Hard wired using solder and heat shrink. Mounting position was located in the glove box.

Sorta a crappy pic, but you get the jest. I made an Aluminum plate and mounted it with double stick tape.

If you have any question on mounting or wiring i will try to help.

hit my email at owensracing@comcast.net

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

One nice thing about using the msd harness - if you run into problems down the road and need to troubleshoot to see if the ignition box is working for whatever reason, you can unplug the msd harness and plug in the stock harness, bypassing your ignition box, without rewiring.
