Re: Window switches and retard boxes

Iv'e always had good luck with the MSD brand of electronics... retard boxes, window switchs, timing controls, Ect.....they're sold seperately to splice in to most any ignition......or you could get something like an MSD digital 6 plus box that will give you a better ignition over the factory unit, as well as having a good "spark cutting" revlimiter(not fuel), a single stage adjustable retard for when you spray....and then add the MSD window switch onto that...

Can you tell us what harness (part #) is needed with the LT1 for the MSD digital 6?

Looks like MSD 8877 for the single connector coil and 8876 for the dual connector coil.

I'm sure on the 8877, as that's what I have on my car.

Been looking for the same thing myself.....I see that some guys also use the Mallory 685 box. It has the window switches and a Retard in the same unit, and I think you can use the msd harness to hook up the Mallory?

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

.. If you don't want to go with the digital 6 plus box with the retard built in.......their "best" seperate MSD window switch(Digital with adjustable degree dials is#8969), and the regular one that uses the (sold seperatly) plug in RPM modules is #8956....... The MSD retard box is #8975 for the 4 stage retard... and #8970 for their 3 stage retard unit........

I think it's not for our engine(s). The PDF says "For applications triggered by points". Unless I don't understand something....

Then it is a good find as it's about $50 less than the MSD digital 6 plus.
I went into the Summit Racing store here and talked with three sales people, one of them was the parts manager. It wasn't an enlightening event. I'm on the hunt for information on these modules. I don't need the intensified spark but the ability to control the rev limit by cutting spark, retard timing and have an integrated window switch would be the answer to a customized nitrous system. All that would be necessary to add would be a fpss.

Re: Window switches and retard boxes

The Mallory 685 box is perfectly suited for your application. Get the MSD harness and the install becomes plug and play.

The 685 box has a built in window switch and a single stage of retard that is RPM activated. IMO, it's the perfect all-in-one box for a single stage nitrous setup. The best thing is that there are none of those stupid MSD RPM pills to constantly buy and loose - just a couple pushes of the button and you can control all of the box's features.

Thanks Chip! It looks like my 95 will need the 8876 MSD harness and CamaroSS30thAnn will need the 8877 but I will have to take a look for the dual connection on mine.

As for your question CamaroSS30thAnn, it seem that the integrated window switch can be used to enable the n20 arming switch but someone else will have to give an experienced answer. I'm really glad you started this thread btw.
