window switch neccesary for M6?
window switch neccesary for M6?
alright ill be picking up a HSW wet kit in a while. im gonna run 100 shot, 125 at most. ill be running colder plugs, FPSS, purge and a blowdown tube. i basically want it for the coolness factor and mostly for the track to get the numbers i want. ill be spraying 2nd gear, 3rd and 4th. if im running a WOT switch, will it be neccesray to run a window switch if im letting off and shifting? i know itd be good to run like a Mallory 685, pull timing, run the window switch and all that but i really wanna keep this project around 600 bucks instead of a grand. what you guys think about this? obviously if im at WOT at the track, the car will always be in the right RPM range to spray but anything else i should think about here? thanks
Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
in my personal opinion from what i know about nitrous wich isnt too much
but still i dont think i would want to run a car with out a window switch m6 or a4
with the m6 what happens if you miss a shift??
or the a4 what happens if the trany starts slipping and is bouncing the rev between gears
its def doable to run it without i just wouldnt choose to

Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
I suggest running them on the manual cars. Like FryedClutch said, what happens if you hit the rev limiter and the fuel pump is cut off and the nitrous isn’t?

ok thats understandable.
Matt, would you suggest pulling timing with a 100 HP jet running from your Sudden Impact wet kit? like said, ill run all the other safety things but i wish i didnt have to spend the extra few hundred bucks. is the Mallory gonna be worth it or can i slap on a 100 buck MSD window switch and save a hundred or so? thanks

If the timing has not been advanced any then no, you don't have to pull any. Now, if you going after the safest possiable set up, then yes, you could pull a degree or two of timing. If your not pulling any timing make sure you are running the higest octane pump fuel available in your location if you'll be spraying her.

Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
will the mallorys rev limiter override the stock one, for whatever i set it to, and then pull spark? i plan to shift fairly early. whats stock limiter at 6200? i will prolly shift around 5600 or so depending.
ksmyss, what do you mean dont lift to shift? if you mean powershift, forget it, otherwise what do you mean?lol

Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
The external box will only control the rev limit if you set the box rev limit lower than the PCM rev limiter. Stock LT1 rev limiter in an M6 is 5,886rpm in 1st gear and 5,805rpm in all other gears.
No one mentioned then advantage of the low side of the window switch.... keeping the nitrous from firing at low rev's where it can do serious damage.

Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
i can understand how its bad to spray low RPMs, but why would i spray if i didnt have the system armed, and when i use it like i said, will be 2nd gear, after i get on the top end and then 3rd and 4th will always be above 3500 when im spraying wouldnt it?
Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
yeah i mean powershift. once my foot hits the floor it doesnt come up till the end.
our factory rev limiter is around 5800 like injuneer said. i had my stock rev limiter set really high and use the mallory for the rev limiting.
what gears do you have in the rear? that will determine your shift recovery and tell you if its going to be at or above 3500.

Re: window switch neccesary for M6?
yea, basically... the car used to have a wet kit on it with NO safety stuff, the guy i bought it from gave me a ride, then yanked it off. he grabbed 3rd at like 60, then hit it. so yea i guess its just for that insurance, but i guess it only takes one time to screw it up.
so i can get the cars stock rev limiter programmed to like 7k for instance, then run the Mallory at w/e i want, and use the window switch accordingly huh?
say im shifting around 5,500, would it be ideal to shut the nitrous off a hundred RPM or 2 before that like 5,300 then set the window switch to like 3700 or so for like Injuneer said the bottom part to prevent it. hmmm, i suppose for racing when it comes down to precision and consistency the window switch is a must. thanks guys
