well you could start by going to www.nitrousexpress.com and on the left select Category, then Nitrous Fill Station Pump - to get an idea of the hardware.

 

I have looked there I just need to know what all I need. I know I need a pump and a scale but I will probally use by own scale. I need to know how to get the N20 in bulk and stuff like that. Thanks

 

I researched everything as you have done and purchased a NOS refill station and scale. I had a price quote from the local welding supplier and after I purchased everything he tripled the price to me. I guess the only other NOS supplier in town caught wind and twisted his arm to not sell to me. If I bought it in bulk it would be $4.50/lb. If I have a ten pound bottle filled at the local speed shop it is only $3.50/lb. Go figure. I will be finding a large supplier outside of this town that way politics don't get in the middle. Good luck.

 

Talk to NOS or NX, they should be able to give you the bulk suppliers name for your area.

You'll find that most of the welding suppliers wont deal with nitrous. If NOS or NX cant give you a lead, go to the bigest welding supplier in the area, ask them. If they dont deal with it, they may know who does.

Another option is to check with the local medical supply companies that deal with medical grade nitrous. They should be able to give you their bulk supplier's name. Most of the these suppliers wont give you medical grade, but it's a good chance that they will either sell automotive grade, or know who does.

I've looked at the pricing of buying in Bulk through Houston, and I can get it for under $2 per pound if I go pick it up downtown. I wouldnt be interested in resale, so I wouldnt need the pump. I could just chill or freeze my bottles and put a warmer on the bulk bottle. It would be a little initail investment for the 1st large swap bottle, and a line and filter. But after that, it would pay for itself the first year.

That all depends on how much nitrous you (and you buddies) are using, how far you have to go for refills, and how much discount you can get. I can save approx $2 per pound, so it could prove to be very worthwhile...

But yea, unless u are buying alot and can sell it like butter, then it wont be worth it. Unless u can get like 6.00lb from people hehehe

 

I spend about 200 a month on N20 myself and I work with 3 other guys who have N20 kits on granted none of them have even sprayed this year. but they only one of them actually has the kit installed. I have to hook up the other guys tonight and we are all going in on a fill pump and the N20 but I go threw about 10lbs a week (Poor stock motor)I guss you could say I am a hooked on it

 

$2.00 per pound is worth it for me...

Last year, I went through about 2 bottles a month... For an initial investment of less than $200, Id save approx $480 a year. If I split the initial investement with my 3 buds who would also be drawing from the stash, I'd only be out $50... and our total saving would be well over $1000 per year. I've always lived on a budget, so to me, a couple hundred bucks a year, with virtually no extra effort, sounds good... That's an extra toy for my car or maybe the neighborhood association dues.

IMO, it makes perfect sense for any small group or club, to do there own refills if they can get a good price and are fairly close to a bulk source.

 

Totally agree. Just the convenience factor alone, would make it worth it. What if you wanted to engage in a little after hours racing(not that anyone here would do that) and were low on nitrous. It sure would be nice to have a fill station in the ol' garage. I keep 40lbs on hand at all times.

 

You guys are getting ripped. Regular prices are $2.50/lb, sales from time to time it'll cost $1.79/lb. bulk its gotta be $1 per.

 

heres a little "hint" for all you fellow Nitrous lovers. Before you fill your bottle open the valve and make sure its completely empty. Then put the whole bottle ( with valve closed) in the FReezer for about an hour, then immeadiatly fill it with nitrous. You will get about an extra pound ( 10 lb bottles) or pount and a half ( for 15lb bottles) inside. THEN, take your bottle home and throw it in the bathtub with hot water for 15 minutes. By now pressure is atleast 2000 PSI or greater (dont worry blow off valve wont open until 3000 PSI) Now take your bottle and put it in your car and go out looking for a race. I wouldnt use your bottle right away, after about 15 minutes the pressure will drop down to around 1400-1500PSI....This pressure is perfect! You will see how much more of a blast you get out of the bottle and also it last longer with that extra pound in it. TRUST ME!! I know from experience, its AWSOME!! YOu dont actually have to overfill the bottle to do the last step of heating up your bottle, its jsut so you get more spray between fills. **WARNING! Do not try this if you do not have adequate fuel supply, you will get a larger shot than your used to*** Oh and if you dont ahvea bottle heater of blanket your bottle temp will fall rapidly after 1st spray

 

The nitrous pump isn't cheap and requires a source of compressed air to run. You need the hose, valves, fittings, and a fairly accurate scale. And you need to put a deposit on a tank. Figure ~$600-800 to get started, assuming you already have a compressor. Also, you need a safe place to store a large nitrous tank. I wouldn't put it in a garage attached to a house, for example.

Just look in the Yellow Pages for an industrial gas supplier. There may not be one nearby if you live in a small town or rural area though.

The idea is unlikely to make sense except for a car club or something like that.

I'm not talking about using a filling station with a pump and compressor. You can transfer from the bulk bottle with temp and press differential, to keep everything very affordable. It's all about being cheap - I wouldnt even consider buying a refill station from NOS or NX unless I won the lottery

Most people already have a freezer, a heating blanket, and a scale. Then it's just a nitrous filter, a couple of lines & fittings from a local Parker rep, and a guage from WW Grainger. Fairly cheap stuff. Both bottles already have valves, I dont see why you need another. The bottle depost isnt very much either.

I dont see what the problem would be storing the large cylinder in my Garage though. I'm already keeping 2 10# and 2 5# bottles in there...

Refilling would definetly be more than a large club cared to handle. But for a small club or group friends who all sprayd, it could work well...
