Spraying through shifts?

Is it alright to spray through shifts in an automatic car or is it excessively hard on the car? Do most people use a throttle switch or a button in automatics?

Thanks

For an auto id suggest a window switch for the nitrous. Not a good idea to spray the entire time.

ONLY spray through shifts if you have lots of faith in your tranny builder. otherwise, use a window switch and save the trans.
i have sprayed through shifts on 2 trannies,a stocker with a shift kit,got maybe a season before it croaked. second trans was built by a friend/full time tranny guy,and went over 2 years before the output shaft snapped.

Re: Spraying through shifts?

But with the window switch, does it not start spraying again before it goes into the next gear?

For instance if the window switch is from 3000-5800 and I shift at 6000, as soon as the tranny starts to shift and the rpms drop below 5800 does it not start spraying again? It seems to me that it would only not spray for those 200 rpms. Can someone explain this to me?

Re: Spraying through shifts?

aside from not spraying when your tranny shifts...a window switch also insures that if you hit your rev limiter your not spraying (rev limiter cuts off fuel= engine goes boom)

Re: Spraying through shifts?

I wouldn't want to spray through the shifts with a 4L60. If it's a stronger tanny, then yes.

It is a 700 and a 350 tbi, but I am not that concerned if the transmission if it blows up, but I don't think that I am goning to spray through the gears.

What about my question above about the window switch?

you can set the window switch to whatever rpm's you want. so if you shift at 6k,shut it off at 5900and after the gear change,it will come back on when the rpms drop.

Re: Spraying through shifts?

I sprayed through shifts with my stock trans made it a full season with no problems. Next season I added the cam and first time at the track made 4 passes and the trans was gone. So if you don't mind having your trans built strong or just blowing it up then go ahead and spray away.

I have been running nitrous since 1997 with no problems. I have always sprayed through the shifts. I thought everyone did. I have a stock 4L60E trans.

Re: Spraying through shifts?

i have been pondering the same question.

I have a stock A4 and i dont know where to set the window switch at.
I know it will start spraying at 3k but where to shut it off i dont know.

where are some of you guys with stock A4s spraying too. I was thinking 5800 rpms, but thats redline. do our cars shift at 6000 or 5900 i cant remember.

THanks guys

Shift at 57xx and change. Set the window switch to 5600. If you want to get real good at pulling a tranny in 30 minutes then start spraying through the shifts.

I spray thru all gears.Althought I do have a good trans. Why would anyone not want to. Not spraying equals not going as quick as you can.Besides if winning doesn't matter then why do they keep score?

Hey if you have deep pockets and can afford to build a new trans then more power to ya, but not all of us can buy a new trans every 1-2 years.
